Job Description

This Engineer is responsible for the 24x7 support of mission-critical services supporting our Provisioning Operations environments. We prize engineering professionals equipped with great technical skills and attitudes that motivate those around them. The candidate for this position will need to:
Install, maintain, and configure production, staging and quality assurance environments to support our provisioning services. Environments include servers, operating systems, storage devices, and applications software
Perform daily operations support functions, including problem isolation and resolution
Provide critical technical leadership in the areas of operational process and change management
Interface with Development, QA, Performance, Project Management, Customer Service, Business, and other Operations organizations
Represent Operations in regular stakeholder software development and release management meetings
Coordinate with other technical staff to implement systems and software
Acquire thorough understanding of ourapplications and operational environments
Document processes, procedures, configurations, and deployment plans
Participate in a 24x7 on call rotation
Regularly report progress to Management

The Person
Our ideal candidate will have a strong technical and organization skills, be able to lead in a team environment, and be a self-starter able to multi-task in this dynamic operations group. We need effective communicators who can work within a matrixed environment and represent VeriSign effectively to customers and other external resources. A high level of technical skills and experience is essential for success. Some attributes include:
7+ years of experience administering systems in a High Availability OLTP production operations environment (Registry Services, E-commerce or ISP environment a plus)
Hands-on in-depth DNS expertise, Extensible Provisioning Protocol (EPP) /Whois/Atlas/BIND experience
Strong experience with AIX IBM P5+ Hardware, Red Hat Linux (RHCE), and storage devices in computing environments of 500+ nodes
Strong experience with VMware ESX/ESXi Cluster Configuration & System Implementation for Virtualization
Enterprise Application Integration experience
Strong experience with server-side storage provisioning (NFS, Powerpath, Symcli, SAN/EMC, NAS)
Proficiency with UNIX utilities and scripting (Perl, Python, shell, Expect, etc)
Experience with High-availability clusters (HACMP)
Experience with automating production processes and procedures
Enterprise deployment automation experience using tools such as Cobbler, Puppet, and Fabric
Hands-on experience with TCP/IP networking, including Ethernet, IP addressing & subnetting, routing, iptables, and network troubleshooting
Experience administering Apache Hadoop HDFS environment a plus
Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or a related technical field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
