Biochemist - Proteins  

Yoh Scientific has a contract opening for a Biochemist for purification / characterization / concentration of proteins to join our customer in West Point, PA.Job Duties:

• You will help enable drug lead discovery and optimization through the production and characterization of proteins for use in X-ray crystallography and screening.
• The incumbent will perform protein purification and characterization of recombinant proteins from prokaryotic and eukaryotic hosts.
• Duties will include exploring new technologies to optimize purification methods, and communicating results at departmental meetings.
• Under the direction of a more senior staff member, carries out research on assigned research problems contributing to the attainment of a defined research objective.
• The nature of the work performed by the incumbent will normally be the solution of specific aspects of complex research problems.
• The problems assigned are normally short range in terms of time required for solution.

• BS in Biochemistry or related discipline with 2 years experience.
• Demonstrated success in high-quality purification of recombinant proteins (milligram scale) from both eukaryotic and prokaryotic hosts, using state-of-the-art technologies (e.g. AKTA FPLC/Purifier/Express) is essential.
• Experience with protein characterization (e.g. SDS-PAGE, Western analysis) and protein concentration determination via standard spectroscopic methods (Bradford, A280nm etc)
• Excellent communication skills (written, presentation, and oral).
• Ability to work in a matrix environment within timelines.
• Experience in the application of biophysical characterization methods (e.g. Biacore, Thermofluor, mass spectrometry, protein NMR) and activity analysis (e.g. enzyme kinetics) is a strong plus.
• Knowledge of molecular biology, structural biology or HTS is a plus.
