L-3 Communications Fuzing & Ordnance Systems

L-3 Fuzing & Ordnance Systems (L-3 FOS) is an ordnance supplier and systems integrator for the U.S. military and international allies. L-3 FOS manufactures and integrates systems for artillery, tank, mortar and infantry-employed ammunition products and specializes in the development and production of fuzing and safe and arming devices.

Comprised of business units from two legacy L-3 divisions — BT Fuze Products and KDI Precision Products, L-3 FOS combines expertise in both fuzing and ordnance systems under a single senior management team to facilitate rapid response to the warfighter’s requirements while providing a broader range of solutions to both government and prime contractor customers.

Our history dates back to 1946 to a machine design company from Rochester, New York called Krause Design, Inc. Krause was an early leader in manufacturing machines that sorted and collated the little stiff brown and yellow cards with slotted holes in them known as "IBM cards". This was the beginning of the computer age and data transfer between early computers was done with these IBM cards. Precision and speed was paramount to this new industry and Krause responded and prospered. With the acquisition of the defense division of the Gruen Watch Company in 1958 L-3 FOS entered the fuze business.
