Overview
An entertaining career.
Right here at Sony Electronics.
When it comes to everyday life, Sony Electronics is there. Our products electrify the senses — music, video, photos, laughter and sheer emotion. As a consumer, you feel it across our cool products. And as part of our team, you'll feel the excitement of working for the best brand in the world. Step inside Sony Electronics, and watch our Talent at Work extend nearly 60 years of entertainment history. This is life at its creative best. This is Life at Play.
Products that make you feel,
begin with strategies that make you think.
At Sony Electronics, our business units work to shape a consumer experience unlike any other. The end result are products that touch every single emotion.
Consumer
Our consumer products connect on so many levels. Take, for example, the individual experience of our Walkman portable stereos. Or the shared joy of our Cyber-shot and Mavica digital still cameras. Don't forget the power of our VAIO desktop and notebook computers. And behold the dropped jaw awe of our flat-panel plasma and LCD WEGA televisions. From tiny portables to home theater — our consumer products have redefined the mainstream.
Business and Professional
If you're watching the news or a football game on TV — chances are, Sony technology is bringing you the picture. Our Broadcast and Production Systems develop groundbreaking video and audio equipment for the broadcast and production industries. Our Component Solutions are also used in broadcasting to archive an entire network's programming and retrieve recordings on demand.
But the broadcast world only tells part of our professional story. Our Business Group creates solutions for the educational, healthcare, security, hospitality, governmental, enterprise and business markets. It's no wonder companies and hospitals around the world use Sony products — including our servers and notebooks, and video conferencing, visual imaging and medical imaging systems.
Manufacturing
Whether it's producing the latest recording medium, fine-tuning the most advanced LCD monitor or even writing software to help with color calibration — our Manufacturing teams ensure that the Sony product experience will be a lasting one.
Engineering and Research & Development
Customer needs and product functionality are at the core of Sony's cutting edge research and development approach, making our designers and engineers an integral part of the development team from a product's conception to production.
Helping Sony anticipate consumer lifestyles and trends, our designers and engineers apply their tallents and creativity to develop leading hardware and software platforms and applications for emerging technologies.
Service
When a customer purchases a Sony product, that is merely the start of the relationship. Behind it all are a series of local, regional and global repair centers and dealers who deliver unparalleled customer satisfaction through access and responsiveness balanced by efficient processes.
Sony Style and Outlets
Sony Style stores and outlets stretch across the country and allow consumers to watch a DVD, snap a photo, play some music...and experience our products firsthand. There's also a place on the Web where consumers can go right from their computers into the exciting world of Sony.
The power of Sony is in your hands.

Employee Development
Home grown talent.
The future of Sony Electronics depends on the ongoing, focused growth and development of our employees and future leaders. Developing our talent is a critical strategy that allows us to expand markets, increase sales and improve profitability. More so, as a global leader, it is our responsibility to actively create a culture and environment that encourages and enables our employees to reach their potential. That's why we're so proud of our Talent Management initiatives.
Taking control of your career.
Through our HR WorkWays™ online benefits management platform, our employees complete a Talent Profile that houses reviews, employment history — and career goals and a development plan. This profile can also be used when you apply for internal positions available within Sony. It is further shared with Human Resources and business leaders. This information is used to focus your individual development and identify opportunities for you to learn more, develop your skills and advance.
Your training ground.
Central to the Talent Management Process is the Sony Electronics Leadership Curriculum. Through a state-of-the-art, blended approach that combines online resources, peer learning groups and in-class labs — we integrate learning into the daily activities of your work. Applied over time, the Leadership Curriculum can be a vital catalyst to your professional growth with Sony. You'll increase your understanding of our core business, our desired culture, the industries in which we compete — as well as develop through applied learning in established and emerging markets.
Taken a step further, the curriculum develops critical skills across the course of your Sony career. This enables us to build a strong "leadership pipeline" at all levels and is a key competitive advantage. The focus is on important prerequisites of managerial-leadership work at different levels — most notably skill requirement, time allocation and work values.
Partnership for growth.
Conducted throughout the year, our Performance Review Process helps you establish goals for the coming year, ensures alignment with key company initiatives — and facilitates dialogue with your manager to check the progress on your goals and development plan.

Think tank.
You'll find strategic business functions across our major U.S. locations.
San Diego, California
In addition to corporate support, San Diego is home to Sony's domestic sales and marketing groups, most of its consumer product business divisions — as well as headquarters for primary engineering, manufacturing and customer service functions. San Diego produces VAIO® notebook and desktop computers, data storage products and cathode ray tubes; and handles service and repair for many of Sony's consumer electronic products.
San Jose, California
San Jose is home to several diverse design, research and development activities — including semiconductor design, data storage, intelligent systems development and software solutions. San Jose also houses engineering, marketing, sales, training and support functions for several businesses, including component solutions, broadcast and business solutions, online technologies, consumer sales, various corporate groups and research labs.
Park Ridge, New Jersey
Park Ridge is dedicated to providing the most advanced audio/video and IT solutions to a variety of enterprise markets, as well as consulting services. These products and services offer leading-edge digital video technology in acquisition, recording, production, storage, display and projection. The partnerships with business-to-business customers ensure a migration path for future technologies.
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Pittsburgh is proudly home to the world's first vertically integrated TV manufacturing facility. In fact, the facility can go from sand to finished product — and produce large-screen rear projection, direct view, LCD, plasma and high-definition units. Pittsburgh also produces coated thermal transfer ribbons used for bar coding in manufacturing and inventory control, logistics and distribution; and specialized adhesives and UV coatings.
Dothan, Alabama
Dothan was the first site in the United States to produce both VHS and 8mm tape products. Today, as one of the world's largest, single-site producers of magnetic recording media, Dothan continues to produce consumer and professional video products, as well as audio voice and music grade media. Certified under ISO-9002 and ISO-14001, Dothan is also the only facility outside of Japan to feature oxide, metal particle and advanced metal evaporated coating technology.
