The Matlen Silver Group, Inc. was founded in 1980 by Jim De Silver and Michael J. Chirichella. In the early years, the company’s focus was on software products for network monitoring and management, especially in the financial services industry. Matlen Silver was a company of software engineers, with a hands-on approach to technology and a passion for building software that could solve clients’ problems.
While Matlen Silver initially had a good product set, our organization learned early on that in addition to software, our clients wanted customization services. While it was not part of our initial business plan, Matlen Silver rapidly began offering professional services as well as custom software development.

Through the 1980s, Matlen Silver company experienced steady growth, developing a solid reputation as a firm that could get things done. Matlen Silver did very little conventional advertising, favoring direct referrals as the best way to build our client base. Every time we exceeded a customer’s expectations, there were more people eager to send business our way, and this fueled our growth. Matlen Silver became known as an organization that offered competitive rates, talented technical resources and developed a compelling story of client successes. Matlen Silver leveraged our software products and took advantage of our ability to develop custom solutions through the 1980s.

In the 1990s, Matlen Silver continued to grow organically with very positive results; annual revenue went from $12 million in 1992 to over $65 million in 2001. During the early Internet/dot-com years Matlen Silver made investments in developing technical talent in Web based distributed technologies. Matlen Silver also developed a Year 2000 practice and performed renovation of legacy code for numerous clients primarily within the financial service industry.

Since 2000, Matlen Silver has recognized new opportunities in the constantly changing world of Information Technology. Matlen Silver's reputation, flexibility and readiness to adapt has created new opportunities for the organization. Client Implements Disaster Recovery Plan with Assistance from Matlen Silver

On September 21, Matlen Silver received a call from the disaster recovery team at AIG Technologies, Inc. (AIGT) which is responsible for maintaining the data center and infrastructure for the member companies of American International Group, Inc. An AIGT facility in Texas was located in the path of Hurricane Rita and the company quickly implemented its disaster recovery plan.

Remote operations needed to be established to restore servers in Texas and operate them until the endangered facility could be fully restored. Due to the urgent time constraints, AIGT required supplemental resources to staff these sites.

Matlen Silver assembled a team of nine engineers and within 24 hours the team was working on server restore procedures as outlined in AIGT’s disaster recovery plan. Working with AIGT, the Matlen Silver team was able to cut over to the remote sites without any business disruption to clients.

Matlen Silver Achieves SAS 70 Certification

The Matlen Silver Group's technology infrastructure has achieved an SAS Type II certification, one of the most stringent auditing standards for service companies defined by the Statement on Auditing Standards. The SAS 70 Type II means that Matlen Silver's infrastructure delivers a fully secure, reliable, effective operating environment with the proper controls for conducting high availability IT transactions.

The SAS 70 Type II audit, administered by Ernst & Young, was performed through meticulous reviews and tests of operational procedures and controls. This SAS 70 Type II assures that our operational processes and controls meet superior standards of security, reliability and availability. The audit included comprehensive reviews of the infrastructure, including physical and electronic security measures, backup and recovery procedures, network security, maintenance procedures, infrastructure change management, environmental safeguards and insurance coverage.
