Currently accepting applications for Fall '08! Purpose: Learn about the internal and external communications process of Chicago's CW Station. Get experience in public relations, special events marketing, and promotions. Candidate must be organized, and possess good interpersonal and typing skills. Proficiency in Word required. Public Relations Internship Responsibilities: To assist the Publicity & Promotion Manager in the following areas: * Internal and External Communications (EXAMPLES) - Press relations: draft releases for local stories, ratings releases, original and first-run programming, sporting events, news specials, new hires, etc. - "Nine Online" digital newsletter (runs monthly) - Handle photographic needs (ie: re-order head shots, etc.) - Create special events displays; disseminate information - Maintain correspondence with viewers (ie: photo requests for speaking engagements, viewer suggestions, etc.) - Maintain PR files (ie: updating bios, company history, etc.) - Post bulletins, pertinent PR releases - Field phone calls * Promotions and Special Events Marketing - Help implement station promotions and special events (generate rules, fulfillment of winners) * Charity Events - Assist in organizing charity events such as the Bozo Ball (in May) and Back to School Kids Fair (in August). Help implement programs to raise funds for WGN-TV Children's Charities, a fund of the Robert R. McCormick Tribune Foundation * Skills evaluated - Quick learner, requires minimal supervision, works well under pressure, demonstrates initiative, organized and detail oriented, reliable, punctual, strong administrative skills (must know Word). * Additional Information - Internships last for approximately 13 weeks and can be evaluated for class credit. - Hours: varied, approx 20-24+ hours per week preferred. - Interns are given a stipend of $30 weekly. - Interns must be a junior or senior majoring in Communications, Public Relations or related field.
