Sheet Metal, Structural Aircraft Mechanic

Overview:
  • Document maintenance performed on required forms.
  • Must be able to accomplish any and all repairs, modifications, E.A.'s, etc, with very little to no assistance.
  • Must be able to use all tech data and aircraft drawings to locate part numbers and accomplish repairs.
  • Must be able to fabricate parts.
  • Perform maintenance IAW FAA approved technical data.
  • Research FAA technical data to locate applicable data relevant to assigned task.
  • Repair body or structure of aircraft according to specifications.
  • Reinstalls repaired or replacement parts for subsequent riveting or welding, using clamps and wrenches.
  • Reads work orders, blueprints, and specifications or examines sample or damaged part or structure to determine repair or fabrication procedures and sequence of operations.
  • Locates and marks dimension and reference lines on defective or replacement part, using templates, scribes, compass, and steel rule.
  • Cures bonded structure, using portable or stationary curing equipment.
  • Communicates with other workers to fit and align heavy parts or expedite processing of repair parts.
  • Cleans, strips, primes, and sands structural surfaces and materials prior to bonding.
  • Repairs or fabricates defective section or part, using metal fabricating machines, saws, brakes, shears, and grinders.
  • Removes or cuts out defective part or drills holes to gain access to internal defect or damage, using drill and punch.

Requirements

Education/Experience:

  • A&P license not required but must have at least 5 years aviation sheetmetal experience.
  • Knowledge of numbers, their operations, and interrelationships including arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.
  • Knowledge of equipment, tools, mechanical devices, and their uses to produce motion, light, power, technology, and other applications.
  • Knowledge of design techniques, principles, tools and instruments involved in the production and use of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and the appropriate tools to construct objects, structures, and buildings.
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, benefits, repair, and maintenance.
