Senior Mainframe Technical Support Engineer

Job Description

The Senior Mainframe Technical Support Engineer is responsible for managing activities related to Mainframe Technical Support and Administration in a ?7x24? environment. 

  • Assists with planning, scheduling, installing, configuring, testing and assisting Data Center Operations, other IT Staff and Vendors with mainframe hardware installations and upgrades in support of business processing requirements.
  • Assists with planning, scheduling, installing, configuring, testing and providing some training for other IT staff for installations or upgrades to mainframe OS or ISV software.
  • Consults with and advises Applications and other IT Staff in the use of various ISV products.
  • Monitors and tunes the mainframe LPARS to achieve optimum performance levels. 
  • Assists with mainframe storage installations, upgrades, disk allocation management and monitoring.
  • Works with Data Center Management in support of Mainframe Disaster Recovery Planning and Testing, media management through internal methods and procedures, or through offsite storage and retrieval services. 
  • Helps Develop and promote mainframe-related standard operating procedures. 
  • Conducts routine audits of mainframe storage and backups to ensure compliance with established standards, policies and guidelines.
  • Provides overall direction assistance for design, implementation, and maintenance of complex mainframe environments with respect to performance, access methods, access time, validation checks, organization, security, documentation, and statistical methods.
  • Projects long-rang requirements for the mainframe environments in conjunction with others in the information systems function as well as business function managers.
  • Generates and/or reviews statements-of-work for outside resources engaged to perform upgrades and also ensures compliance with vendor license agreements.
  • Competent to work at the highest level of all phases of mainframe technical support.
  • Also responsible for defining and/or reviewing mainframe-related requirements and solution options with other IT Staff and Management; planning or guiding the planning for the implementation of approved solutions and projects.
