The mission of the Mississippi Department of Corrections is to provide and promote public safety through efficient and effective offender custody, care, control and treatment consistent with sound correctional principles and constitutional standards.
Benefits The State of Mississippi offers a comprehensive set of benefits, as well as retirement plans, for state employees. In addition to the benefits listed below, several options plans are available to include coverage for dependents. Personal Leave: 18 work days per year earned at one (1) day per month. Increases periodically thereafter. Eligible to use leave after one month of service. Medical Leave: 12 work days per year, earned at a rate of one (1) day per month. Holiday Leave: 10 recognized holidays per year. Medical Insurance: Provided free for employees. The plan entails a $450.00 deductible with 80% of the medical cost covered thereafter. Prescriptions: Authorized prescription drugs can be purchased at a discount. Dental Insurance: Optional plan, which costs $12.00 to $15.90 per month for the employee. Life Insurance: Cost is only 30 cents per thousand dollars of annual salary. Payoff is double the employee's annual salary. Cafeteria Plan: Deductions from salary are withheld before assessment of federal and state taxes, thereby reducing taxable income. Family Medical Leave Protection Act Credit Union Membership Veteran's Preference: 5-point preference. Up to four years credit in the retirement plan. Uniforms: Furnished for Correctional Officers.
