LyondellBasell Channelview, TX Full-Time

Basic Function

LyondellBasell is staffing for Process Engineers at our Channelview, TX Manufacturing Complex, located 18 miles from downtown Houston. Our 4,000-acre Channelview Complex consists of a North facility with two Olefin units with downstream processing that manufacture Ethylene, Propylene, Butadiene, MTBE, Alkylate, C5's and Aromatics as well as separate Methanol and Isopropanol units. The South facility uses many of these products to produce Propylene Oxide, Styrene Monomer, ETBE and BDO derivatives.

This is a truly exceptional opportunity for the high-performing Chemical Engineer to join our Channelview manufacturing team. The position offers a competitive base salary, bonus, 401K matching, generous benefits package, pension plan and employee discounts.

The Process Engineer will provide process engineering support for unit operations and capital projects for the Channelview Manufacturing plants. S/he will collaborate with unit production engineers, operations specialists, and reliability partners to identify, recommend, and implement strategic projects to improve unit performance and profitability.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Develop and support projects/programs which contribute to the profitability, reliability, environmental and safety integrity of the plant.
  • Evaluate existing processes to improve efficiency, reduce costs, improve product quality and reduce risk.
  • Evaluate alternate engineering solutions to improve existing plant operation or new future plants and offer a technically sound recommendation for the path forward.
  • Support plant evaluations and management of change packages providing technology input and endorsement.
  • Provide process design support for capital projects including Process Design Package preparation.
  • Coach less experienced engineers, as well as provide technical training to others.
  • Effectively communicate technical recommendations and achievements both verbally and written.
  • Incorporate process safety, environmental soundness and reliable operations principles and standards in projects and tasks.
  • Work directly with vendors, contractors and project engineering as appropriate.

Min. Qualifications

  • B.S degree in Chemical Engineering
  • 5 or more years of petrochemical experience
  • Knowledge and experience with the Olefins process is desired
  • Relevant work experience with world scale chemical and petrochemical process unit design and/or operations
  • Knowledgeable in the development of process design packages and economic justification
  • Demonstrated expertise with Aspen Process simulation is desired
  • Candidates must have excellent leadership, ethics, teamwork and communication skills with a results-oriented commitment. The ability to manage multiple and changing priorities is essential.
  • Ability to prioritize work based on value generation, summarize conclusions and communicate recommendations to stakeholders is essential.
