Vice President & Actuary
This Vice President & Actuary position is responsible for leading and managing the actuarial staff in the Westchester Actuarial pricing unit for Casualty, Product Recall, Environmental and Programs. The role is based in Philadelphia, PA reporting to the Lead Actuary for Westchester and supports approximately $1.6B of annual GWP.
Duties and Responsibilities related to this position:
- Work closely with WSG management to coordinate the actuarial support for Casualty, Product Recall, Environmental and Programs
- Supervise the actuarial pricing team including managing the staff’s priorities, workloads, training and development in order to ensure timely delivery of:
- annual pricing studies, as well as ad-hoc pricing study requests
- monthly, quarterly and annual reporting requirements, including price monitoring and NvR, as well as the improvement of these reports as appropriate
- large account pricing referrals
- Work closely with the Finance team on the annual planning process, providing loss ratio projections and planning support documents; monitor and revisit loss ratios monthly throughout the year through re-bridging
- Support the purchase and placement of reinsurance by working closely with the Ceded Re team to provide data and analytics as needed
- Collaborate with the Global and North America Analytics teams as needed to complete projects and assist with implementation.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in a quantitative field such as Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Statistics, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
- 10+ years of actuarial pricing or reserving experience
- ACAS or FCAS certification preferred, or equivalent industry qualifications.
- Proficiency in Excel is required. Familiarity with programming languages and tools such as Radar / SQL / R / Python is advantageous but not required. Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn new tools and technologies.
- Previous managerial or supervisory experience is strongly preferred, but not required. We are open to individuals who have demonstrated leadership potential in other ways, such as leading projects or mentoring colleagues.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills are essential to excel in this role.
- Strong organizational and documentation skills are required, along with the ability to prioritize multiple competing deliverables and manage time effectively to meet scheduled due dates.
- Strong collaboration skills are important, with the ability to work closely with individuals from diverse backgrounds and disciplines. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential, along with the ability to provide clear and concise verbal and written communications to stakeholders at various levels of the organization.
