Fikst, a Re:Build Manufacturing company, is a growing product design and engineering consulting firm located in Wilmington, MA. We work with pioneering clients to develop their technology, design their products, and bring those products to production. Fikst's areas of expertise include biomedical instruments and consumables, industrial automation, and design for manufacturing. Fikst has a growing embedded systems team, focusing on providing microcontroller and embedded software solutions for electromechanical control across a wide variety of technologies and industries. Our electrical and software engineers work closely with the mechanical engineering team early in the design process to prototype concepts and help bring new technologies to market. In our new 30,000+ square foot location we have extensive in-house laboratory and rapid prototyping capability including CNCs, 3D printers and cutters, all of which helps facilitate our ability to prototype and innovate fast.

What you'll get to do

  • Participate in helping to grow an embedded systems team
  • To be the "go-to" individual for technical guidance and oversight of our embedded software solutions
  • Enormous learning experience and the opportunity to acquire additional responsibilities over time
  • Help establish and employ best practices throughout the software lifecycle including software management and version control, DevOps and automated testing
  • Provide leadership in firmware architecture, development, and test.
  • Lead code reviews and provide guidance and mentorship
  • Conduct electrical characterization with basic test equipment in support of firmware development and debug.
  • Follow systems methodologies in approach to product development
  • Support critical hardware demonstrations with customers as needed
  • Develop strategies to leverage modularity and code reuse in designs
  • Support new business opportunities and project scoping activities as needed

What you bring to the Team

  • BS in computer science, electrical engineering, robotics, or related engineering disciplines. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Strong background in electromechanical systems development with 10+ years of electronic product experience from concept through manufacturing.
  • Strong background in hardware/software integration and hardware debugging
  • Experience working in a consulting capacity, having interfaced with internal and external clients is a plus
  • Proficient in embedded firmware development using C/C++ including bare-metal coding.
  • Working knowledge of microcontrollers and their common peripherals
  • Experience using scripting languages (Python, etc) to control hardware resources like LabJack, Arduino, or RaspberryPi
  • Experience in the use of software management tools such as Git/Subversion, and Jira
  • Experience with project scoping and test estimation.
  • Working knowledge of common regulatory standards such as FCC emission requirements, UL safety standards. Understanding of medical device certification (ISO 13485, IEC 62304) bonus.
  • Experience with the implementation of real-time operating systems (FreeRTOS, Zephyr, others)
