Controls Technician / Engineer

Description

The position requires a dependable individual with a good understanding of electrical controls from design to installation.

Requirements

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Implements, evaluates, and maintains all manufacturing equipment controls.
  • Machine repair and troubleshooting
  • Innovative equipment upgrades and automation
  • Equipment installations and relocations
  • Design, formulate BOM, build and program control systems
  • Procurement of electrical components
  • Maintain electrical prints for all equipment
  • Maintain PLC and other control software backups


NON-ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
  • Equipment preventative maintenance
  • Assist in directing co-ops and interns


PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Will sit, stand, stoop, kneel, bend, and walk short distances
  • Will climb stairs on occasion
  • Will lift, push, or pull up to twenty-five pounds on occasion
  • Required to use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry or feel objects
  • May reach above shoulder heights and below waist on a frequent basis
  • Must be able to comply with all safety standards and procedures
  • Must possess vision to read printed materials and computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the phone


COMPENTENCY, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
  • Working knowledge/ troubleshooting of AC/DC electrical systems up to 480VAC 3PH
  • Program Allen Bradley PLC's (Studio 5000), knowledge of servo (AB), stepper, induction motors, electronic sensors, HMI units (RS View ME, SE), ladder logic, relay control systems, AutoCAD electrical
  • Enjoy and thrive working in a cross functional group to improve processes, design and launch new equipment.
  • Conceive, design, and implement automation upgrades to improve throughput and efficiency
  • Experience with programming and interfacing with industrial robots is a plus
  • Experience in troubleshooting basic hydraulics, pneumatics, and electrical systems
  • Understanding of preventative and predictive maintenance procedures and systems
  • Basic computer skills and experience with MS office software/CMMS
  • Works well in a team environment and is also capable of working independently
  • Willing to work overtime, occasionally on short notice
  • Good mechanical aptitude, safe use of hand and power tools
  • Able to complete safety training and adhere to job specific safety protocols and procedures including OSHA requirements as it pertains to control systems
  • Proven record of good attendance and reliability


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

REQUIRED:
  • Minimum associate degree in electrical, controls or electro-mechanical engineer or equivalent coursework and training
  • Minimum 5 years electrical controls experience in the manufacturing environment
