Basic Function
The E&I Reliability Engineer position supports plant operation and reliability improvements including instrumentation, low/medium voltage power systems and process analyzers. This position requires successful collaboration with other groups including process engineering, maintenance, capital project groups, corporate technical networks, and outside vendors to improve plant reliability and performance.
Roles & Responsibilities
This role is part of the site Reliability Group. Operating in a team environment, the reliability group implements best practices, develops and optimizes preventive maintenance (PM) strategies, supports improvement projects and supports maintenance activities for instrumentation and plant power systems.
As a member of the reliability group you may:
• Support development and execution of long range plans for instrumentation, control systems, control valves, transmitters and analyzers.
• Manage equipment obsolescence and replacement.
• Support application of corporate and industry standards.
• Develop and implement equipment maintenance strategies, ensuring proper test methods and frequencies are in place for Critical Instrumentation.
• Analyze and adjust PM frequency based on reliability data.
• Support maintenance activities for planned, scheduled jobs as well as troubleshooting complex and unscheduled jobs.
• Track and report bad actors and develop an improvement plan
• Develop turnaround/outage scope and plans
• Participate in Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) and Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) teams as required.
• Periodically perform discipline specific training to other engineers and technicians
• Provide technical support/expertise for expense and capital project teams
This position offers the ability to develop varying degrees of proficiency in the following areas as job assignments require:
• Reliability Engineering, Predictive/Preventive Maintenance, and Project Management concepts
• Process instrumentation, distributed control systems (DCS), and control valves
• Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) design
• Low and medium voltage power system design
• Computer software tools (SAP, Meridium, Emerson AMS, Fluke Calibration Systems)
Min. Qualifications
• BS degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
• Minimum 4 years relevant experience in the refining, petrochemical, chemical process, or power generation/transmission/distribution industries
• Strong interpersonal leadership skills
• Ability to effectively communicate complex issues across the organization
• Ability to mentor others and collaborate with peers
• Understand business drivers, management of change requirements, reliability processes, and maintenance workflow
Preferred Qualifications
• Knowledge of Delta V, Emerson AMS, Triconex SIS, Procal V, Hart protocol and Fluke Calibrators
• Smart Instrumentation
• Control valve sizing
• Safety Instrumented System Design
• Low and medium voltage motors, motor controls, and variable frequency drives
• Troubleshooting and root cause failure analysis
