WMATA's engineering and architecture team is seeking a dynamic ATC Engineer. This person will work with a group of engineers and technicians designing, implementing, testing and commissioning, and maintaining Automatic Train Control components and systems. The selected candidate will be responsible for engineering design (Software and hardware) from concept to completion. Design solutions will be developed utilizing in-house staff as well as consultant teams. In addition, the engineer will review and approve suppliers' submittals. The incumbent will have background in electrical, computer, system or signaling engineering. The engineer is required to have excellent communication skills to ensure that internal and external stakeholders' needs are clearly understood and addressed. The ability to move projects quickly, with the highest level of standards, when needed will be one of the keys to success. Analyzing and understanding problems to introduce the correct solutions will also be a critical key to success in the position. Experience with software and hardware packages including different types of vital and non-vital processors and control logics is strongly desired. ATC experience and collaboration with a diverse group of engineers and professionals is highly desirable.
Minimum Qualifications :
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field with emphasis in electronics and system design and evaluation. Minimum four years of progressively responsible experience on a project or program in areas of equipment and/or systems design or evaluation.
Or, an equivalent combination of post high school education and a minimum of eight years of progressively responsible experience on a project or program level in areas of equipment and/or systems design or evaluation.
Registration or the ability to acquire registration, as a Professional Engineer in one of the signatory jurisdictions of the WMATA compact, i.e. the District of Columbia, Maryland or Virginia is desirable.
Ability to satisfactorily complete the medical examination for this class. Must be able to perform the essential functions of this job either with or without reasonable accommodation(s).
This is professional engineering work in conducting studies and evaluations and preparing design modifications for the Automatic Train Control (ATC) system. The incumbent is responsible for technical design and related engineering duties relative to the procurement of the ATC system and subsystems. The work involves electronics systems design and evaluation involving state-of -the-art technology. Assignments are carried out independently and results are reviewed primarily for technical soundness and conformity with established criteria and objectives.
Conducts investigations and technical studies relating to automatic train control and subsystem requirements.
Performs technical evaluation of proposals, estimates, specifications and designs f or compliance and/or operational requirements.
Reviews specific designs relative to the ATC system; coordinates reviews with design consultants and prepares appropriate documentation.
Designs modifications to the A TC system as required.
Prepares estimates relating to capital acquisition and operating costs.
Maintains a working ,knowledge of state-of-the-art technology; represents the Authority in meetings with manufacturers and designers.
Establishes and maintains an information feedback system to ensure close liaison between design and actual operation.
Manages the documentation control system in ATC.
Translates policies and operational requirements into specific hardware specifications dra wings.
Coordinates system engineering requirements in terms of human factors, manufacturing and maintenance.
