Advanced Process Control Engineer, Global Engineering & Turnaround

This position has the responsibility for supporting multiple manufacturing sites process control functions, particularly with their Basic/Advanced Regulatory and Advanced Process Control (APC) applications, as well as identifying and implementing new control applications and technologies to improve plant throughput, profitability, stability, reliability, and safety. This position generates a broad range of challenges that require routine interaction with other work groups to ensure maximum value is derived from the APC applications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work safely and responsibly in all aspects of employment
  • Function as a credible technical lead on the largest projects being executed within LyondellBasell
  • Provide technical consulting, direction and formal and informal training to the site process control engineers and specialists
  • Consult and assist sites in developing APC and regulatory control opportunities, assessing benefits and prioritizing work
  • Consult, assist and/or lead as necessary new and revamp APC projects
  • Consult and assist as necessary sites in their maintenance of existing APC applications
  • Develop, document, and champion APC best practices
  • Act in a support or lead role for a variety of projects, initiatives and teams
  • Discover, test, and train others on new process control technologies beneficial to the company
  • Interact with APC vendors in representing LyondellBasell interests
  • Participate and lead in global APC teams and networks

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Minimum Bachelor of Science Engineering degree, preferably in Chemical Engineering
  • Minimum of ten years of experience in the petrochemical industry
  • The individual should understand process engineering theory and control theory fundamentals and have the ability to model and control chemical processes
  • Demonstrated experience with Advanced Process Control in petrochemical, polymer, and/or refining facilities is required
  • Candidates must have excellent leadership, ethics, teamwork, and communication skills with a results oriented commitment; the ability to manage multiple and changing priorities is essential
  • This position requires negotiating skills and the ability to resolve conflict across departmental lines to achieve objectives
  • Key Applications include advanced process control related tools, such as Aspen DMCplus and DMC3, Aspen Plus, and Aspen IQ, Rockwell Pavilion, MS Office and VBA programming and distributed control systems (Emerson, Honeywell, Yokogawa) or their equivalents
