Analyzer Engineer - Global Engineering & Turnarounds

Purpose

The Analyzer Engineer position is for an experienced degreed Engineer or advanced degreed Chemist specializing in on-line analyzers with 9+ years of applicable experience. Of particular interest would be the areas of analyzer technologies and hardware and how they apply to petrochemical plants. Candidates with an instrumentation engineering background, along with strong working knowledge of on-line analyzers will be considered.

Roles & Responsibilities
  • Participation on the corporate Analyzer Technical Network
  • Function as the Analyzer Technical Expert on large Capital Projects
  • Provide engineering design and specifications to support procurement and construction activities for projects
  • Review design drawing and engineering specifications to ensure conformance with relevant standards and practices
  • Serve as an analyzer technology expert liaison between project engineers, plant maintenance, and operations personnel
  • Interact with Engineers and Construction contractors, both on-site and off-site
  • Develop strategic plans for implementing/upgrading analyzer systems
  • Steward the development, implementation and maintenance of analyzer engineering standards
  • Steward the development and execution of the analyzer long range plan
  • Lead by example in all aspects of safety and act as mentor to less experienced personnel
  • Identify new analyzer technologies and evaluate for suitability and maintainability, as well as areas in which analyzers can improve plant operations and profitability
  • Identify opportunities for improved process analyzers, sample systems, and online analytical services, i.e., pertaining to quality, cost and reliability
  • Select and specify analyzer systems for intended applications
  • Direct critical activities requiring knowledge and expertise concerning analyzers
  • Develop and execute factory acceptance test procedures for new analyzer systems
  • Provide commissioning and start up assistance with maintenance and process analyzer support
Qualifications
  • Minimum BS in Engineering or advanced degree in Chemistry (MS or PhD) or a combination of hands-on experience and technical training
  • 9+ years of experience with on-line analyzers GC, Oxygen, IR, CEMS, Water Quality, Gas Detection, etc., in a refinery or petrochemical plant (advanced degree can be considered toward required years of experience)
  • Understand various analyzer technologies and hardware and how they apply to petrochemical plants
  • Understand sample conditioning principles and hardware and how to apply them to process analyzer systems
  • Experience in industrial chemical production units and operations and awareness of surroundings from a safety and environmental point of view
  • Knowledge of industry codes such as applicable ANSI/API codes, ISA standards, CFR, NEC, NFPA
  • Technical knowledge of analyzer design, specification, documentation, installation and maintenance
  • Practical experience with control systems and instrumentation
  • Ability to work with people at different levels of management, engineering and design, internal customers, and suppliers of materials and construction services
  • Ability to communicate effectively and clearly in both written and verbal form for the purpose of instructing others in technical matters and obtaining cooperation from various personnel
