Assistant Controller
San Diego, CA (Del Mar Heights Area)
Direct Hire Position

Seeking a self-motivated, goal-oriented individual to take an active role as Assistant Controller – US Operations. The Assistant Controller will report to the Group Financial Controller based internationally and have primary responsibility for the ongoing development of the accounting function in the Company's San Diego headquarters.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the ongoing development of the accounting function in the Company's San Diego headquarters
  • Implementation of appropriate procedures and controls to ensure the Company is IPO ready
  • Implementation and application of US GAAP standards and guidance
  • Preparation and review of monthly consolidated accounts
  • Oversight and review of accounting / reporting for US operations
  • Annual preparation of year end reporting pack and preparation of consolidated statutory accounts
  • Ensure that accounts receivables are collected promptly
  • Verify that expenses are properly recorded and accounts payable are paid in a timely manner
  • Lead and refine month-end close procedures, including preparing journal entries with supporting working papers and documentation
  • Perform month-end bank and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Assemble and provide information to external auditors as needed
  • Management and oversight of the annual audit and delivery of a clean audit report
  • Ensure tax compliance and assisting in international tax planning matters
  • Provide finance expertise and ongoing support to the business on the accounting implications of new business initiatives
  • Maintain a documented system of accounting policies, procedures and internal controls
  • Act as an agent for change and take ownership in San Diego office of change initiatives being implemented within the Company and within the finance function
  • Other special projects as identified and defined
 
Qualifications
 
  • Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, or related field
  • 6+ years' post qualification experience, controller experience in a public company, financial accounting or audit experience with a minimum of 3 years in a management capacity
  • Professional accounting certification - CPA
  • Qualified Big 4 Accountant
  • Experience working in a biotech / drug discovery environment preferred
  • Experience accounting for share option and other equity plans
  • Experience with managing and controlling CRO relationships throughout the clinical trial process
  • Working knowledge of finance law and regulatory standards (GAAP)
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local tax compliance regulations and reporting
  • Proven payroll experience, with a focus on streamlining accounting processes
  • International experience is a plus
