BaSE HMI/Historian Developer

Job Description

Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to move your career path forward? UPS is seeking a passionate, results-driven Buildings and Systems Engineering (BaSE) HMI/Historian Developer to join our winning team. The BaSE HMI/Historian Developer develops, integrates, supports, audits, and repairs our network of HMI and Historian systems.

The BaSE HMI/Historian Developer manages all project and engineering activities related to the development and integration of HMI and Historian solutions. He/She determines corrective action for malfunctioning systems and supervises the scheduling of necessary software and Operating System updates. The BaSE HMI/Historian Developer also works closely with our internal customers to iteratively improve the HMI and Historian systems throughout our automated network.

In addition to the development, integration, support, and maintenance of HMI and Historian systems, the BaSE HMI/Historian Developer creates and distributes bid documents and project manuals, evaluates incoming bids and project estimates and recommends/awards contracts. He/She will ensure correct knowledge is distributed to those involved in their projects and provide continual training to our internal customers.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Develops projects from concept to completion to meet operational/district requirements
  • Integrates HMI and Historian applications into UPS’s diverse automated network
  • Develops HMI and Historian applications to meet UPS’s safety, cybersecurity, and business needs
  • Provides 4th Level support
  • Completes audits and resolves deficiencies in HMI and Historian applications
  • Supervises contractors and vendors to maintain control of project schedules and costs
  • Conducts field audits and investigations and prepares reports outlining issues
  • Works cross functionally and with project managers to ensure work meets business needs, applicable codes and quality standards
  • Inspects facilities, systems and projects to ensure safety, environmental and contract compliance
  • Conducts on-the-job and formal training to instruct the end user on proper usage of solutions
  • Researches all available information and gathers data to analyze system issues and provide solutions
  • Documents and keeps management teams informed of all support related issues

Knowledge and Skills

  • Skilled in all modes of oral and written communication including one-on-one, small groups, larger groups, etc.
  • Enjoys and is proficient working with people in a team environment, both as team leader and team player
  • Demonstrates effective organizational skills and follow up; able to handle many tasks and maintain forward progress and reporting
  • Skilled at creating estimates and forecasts based on research, analysis, and quantitative information within specified parameters
  • Identifies internal customers’ needs and vendors to meet operational requirements, determines costs, creates bid proposals, and analyzes vendor estimates and develops recommendations for award
  • Experience identifying internal customer needs
  • Experience with Automated Material Handling Systems
  • Up to 50% travel required
  • Bachelor’s Degree (or internationally comparable degree) in Engineering or Computer Science - Preferred 
  • Experience with Windows desktop and server operating systems – Preferred
  • Experience with Historian systems (Wonderware, ThingWorx, etc.) – Preferred
  • Experience with vendor management to meet business needs – Preferred
  • Experience with SCADA/HMI systems (InduSoft, Wonderware, Ignition, RSView, Proficy, etc.) – Preferred
  • Experience with Database management (MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, etc.) - Preferred
  • Experience with corporate IT/Securities policies – Preferred
  • Experience with Systems Integration of Material Handling Systems (CCD cameras, laser scanners, programmable logic controllers, embedded control devices, and other peripherals) – Preferred
