Business Systems Analyst

Job Description

Job Purpose:

Responsible for handling needs assessments and cost/benefit analysis to align the technology of the company with the business strategies. Performs acceptance testing on the software or coordinate a testing environment.



Responsibilities

Essential Duties:

  • Perform Business Systems Analyst functions on assigned projects
  • Initiatives
  • Major Projects
  • Continuous Business Improvement Requests.
  • Provide appropriate documentation of all meetings and decisions
  • Work directly with IT management and project management to ensure timelines are met and process and procedures are followed
  • Enable Business Owner Project Leads to be successful by providing guidance, support and tools.
  • Adhere to the Product Development/SDLC process where indicated.
  • Act as a liaison between business owners and IT to ensure mutual understanding of requirements and specifications
  • Business Requirements Document
  • Gathering requirements, interviewing stakeholders and business owners, documenting requirements, conducting requirement reviews, updating requirements, and gaining approvals from stakeholders

  • Analyzing Organizational and Cross Functional Impacts
  • Writing Epics
  • Writing User Stories & Scenarios
  • Create, update, and manage through the process
  • Discovering and Documenting Acceptance Criteria
  • Facilitate JAD Sessions – Joint Application Design/Development
  • Acceptance Testing
  • After code is developed, the BSA would pass or reject the User Story / functionality based on acceptance criteria in the story prior to being sent to QA
  • Provide Development Support & Clarity throughout SDLC process
  • Support QA through the testing process
  • functional, integration testing, and regression
  • Reviewing Wireframes
  • In some cases, building low / med fidelity wireframes
  • Drive Backlog Grooming & User Story Estimations (Points)
  • Conducts Defect Triage & Works with the business owners to prioritize defects
  • Become the Subject Matter Expert (SME) with assigned projects
  • Ability to evolve into knowing the product end to end; including both business and technical aspects
  • Build and distribute internal project release notes such as the Project Release Review Summary (PRR)
  • Coordinate UAT with business owners
  • After code is tested in QA, the BSA coordinates User Acceptance Testing with the business owners
  • Performs duties/projects as assigned.

  • Strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills
  • An eagerness to mentor other associates related to the project at hand
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Able to develop and use structured approaches to identify root causes and recommend resolutions
  • Can present results in a meaningful terms
  • Solid Business & Technical Acumen
  • Proficient in MS Visio, MS Word, MS PowerPoint
  • Proficient in both Waterfall and Agile methodologies
  • Must be user focused with high customer satisfaction goals
  • Aptitude for business and technology


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 4+ years previous business analyst experience (or related experience) in a Software development environment
  • Experience with developing/documenting business requirements, functional specifications and process
  • Experience in developing use case documentation, business process flows, logic flows, and sequence diagrams

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1+ years in the inmate telecommunications industry preferred
  • CBAP (Certified Business Analyst Professional) Certification
  • CSM (Certified Scrum Master) Certification
  • CPO (Certified Product Owner) Certification
  • Experience with Axure Software
  • Experience with Jira (or similar software)
