Data Center Architect

The Intersect Group is seeking a Data Center Architect for one of their clients in the Atlanta area!

Daily Responsibilities:

• As a team, facilitate and coordinate optimal data center whitespace utilization

• Determine placement of compute, storage, and network equipment in cabinets and whitespace to meet density, efficiency, and resiliency targets

• Determine placement of stand-alone equipment in data center whitespace

• Determine/design optimal and flexible solutions for equipment refresh cycles and growth needs into cabinet and whitespace designs for both equipment in cabinets and standalone

• Working with other infrastructure teams, identify, drive, and oversee process of decommissioning equipment to free up cabinet and whitespace for optimal space utilization

• Working with facilities, ensure proper security, space, power, and cooling requirements are met in whitespace designs

• Assist with the design, layout, and other implications for data center facilities for virtualization, containerization, cloud integration, software defined storage & network, hybrid/converged architectures, and emerging technologies

• Assist with data center capacity planning and disaster recovery planning

• Justify the costs of controversial budget issues such as space allocation, security, power, and other factors

• Work across team boundaries of compute, storage, network, security, application teams, facilities, colocation, and other third party providers to accomplish the above responsibilities

• Create comprehensive documentation, conduct thorough testing, and follow defined change control processes

• Oversee proper asset management and CMDB processes are followed for all equipment within the data center space

• Effectively communicate with end-users, co-workers, managers, and other stakeholders

• Take ownership of issues and tasks in order to see an appropriate resolution to them

• Demonstrate a high level of initiative and attention to detail

• On-call support may be required

Requirements:

• IT Architecture Integration Experience

• Cloud Architecture Integration Experience (SaaS)

• Data center architecture experience in a colocation environment

• DC consolidation, migration methodology, and experience

o DC consolidation plan and wave design experience

o Application migration

o System Migration: lift-and-shift, P2V, V2V, etc.

o Data/Database Migration: DB2 LUW, SQL, Oracle, DB2, MySQL, Teradata, Exadata, etc.

o Storage Migration: HDS, NetApp migration to each other

• Technical agility

• Expert networking conceptual and architectural knowledge (firewalls, routers, switches, DNS, VIP, NAT, load balancers, etc.)

• Excellent written, verbal, presentation, collaboration, and cross-functional communication skills

• Ability to foster productive relationships amongst colleagues and stakeholders in order to meet aggressive deadlines

• Outstanding analytical, motivational, and team work capability

• Exceptional documentation and organization skills

• Ability to handle stressful situations and maintain composure under pressure
