Department Head Instrument and Electrical Engineer

Job Description

GHD has an opening for an Instrument/Electrical Department Manager.  The position is located in our Baton Rouge, LA office locations. We are seeking a dynamic person to act in a dual role capacity of technical and administrative leadership of our Instrument/Electrical design team and to contribute on projects as a Sr. Design Engineer across our internal and external client base in the petrochemical/refining/ oil & gas pipeline sector.   
 
Responsibilities:
•  Function within a consulting engineering environment engaged in multi-discipline project management and design services to support ongoing projects for petrochemical, refining, and pipeline clients that outsource work to be completed using GHD resources.
•  Serve as a technical department manager over instrument and electrical engineers and designers.
•  Act in the capacity of a GHD Leader by being part of the management team, performing work in accordance with industry and client standards, and operating with the highest regard toward ethical business practices.
•  Possess skills and demonstrate proficiency in developing specifications, calculations, and designs for instrument and electrical elements, as well as oversee the efforts of team members performing similar functions.
•  Lead by example in establishing high work standard expectations in areas of understanding scope, quality, budget & schedule commitments, and team values.
•   Adapt to the engineering and construction culture for each client to ensure work practices and deliverables meet or exceed standards and fulfill the commitments made to complete projects.
•  Work with project managers and/or clients to develop labor estimates for the scope and associated deliverables on projects. 
•  Support the project controls efforts that monitor the reporting metrics on project status and project performance.
•  Capture scope deviations and promptly advise project team of impact against current working agreements.
•  Mentor staff and look for ways to improve efficiencies and work execution. 
•  Must be willing to take personal ownership of the work of the department, and be accountable for compliance with scope, schedule, budget, safety, and quality of the work products and work processes.
•  Follow and adhere to all GHD and client safety and administrative policy and procedures.
•  Plan, direct, coordinate, work assignments.
•  Develop and manage department and project staff, budget, and assignments.
•  Define scope of work, schedules, and resource requirements for department and projects.
•  May interact with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and other third parties
•  May act as the technical lead on projects.
•  Is accountable for conformance to design specifications
•  Is accountable for quality assurance and quality control at the department level.
•  Provide project reporting for assignments to project management.
•  Manage project activities ensuring scope, schedule and budget conform to project objectives and client expectations.
 
Qualifications:
•  BS in Electrical Engineering
•  15+ years of combined engineering experience in commercial and or industrial projects including chemicals, refining, pipeline, land development, or other related instrument, controls, and electrical power projects.
•  5+ years of experience in hydrocarbon related industrial projects.
•  5+ years of experience as an engineering or project lead, supervisor, or manager.
•  PE Registration in Texas and Louisiana
•  Background interfacing with plant engineering, operations, maintenance, and construction staff.
•  Strong working knowledge of National Electrical Code and oil and gas industry codes and standards.
•  Strong background in power, instrumentation, and controls.
•  Strong written and oral communications skills and ability to conduct meetings and presentations with clients and design team members.
•  Strong business acumen demonstrating ability to interact with clients with regard to contractual requirements.
•  Knowledgeable of applicable codes and client standards required for installations.
•  Hands on experience in performing instrument and electrical design calculations.
•  Experience with P&ID development, instrument specifications
•  Ability to interface with multi-discipline technical disciplines and a strong understanding within each.
•  Physical ability to make field trips to review project scopes, grasp project complexities, and gauge potential safety issues.
•  Must have current TWIC Card or qualifications to obtain a TWIC card within the first 6 weeks of employment.
•  NCEER accredidation is preferred.
