Basic Function

LyondellBasell's Houston Refinery, one of the largest refineries designed to process heavy, high-sulfur crude oil is in search of a First Class Electrician. Our 268,000-barrel-per-day refinery is strategically located on the U.S. Gulf Coast with access to interstate pipelines and the Port of Houston. The facility covers approximately 700 acres at the city limits of Houston and Pasadena, Texas. The Houston Refinery was one of the first petroleum refineries constructed on the Houston Ship Channel and traces its origin to 1918. The First Class Electrician is a direct-hire position with a competitive salary, bonus, 401K matching and benefits package.

Roles & Responsibilities

The Electrician Technician applies electrical theory and related knowledge in the testing, trouble-shooting, configuring, teardown/rebuilding, and repairing of operational electrical machinery and electrical control equipment and circuitry in a large refinery.

  • Tests, trouble-shoots, configures, rebuilds, and repairs motor-control devices, switch panels, transformers, and other electrical equipment and components according to engineering data and knowledge of electrical principles.
  • Modifies electrical systems to correct functional deviations under the direction of an Electrical Engineer or Specialist; Diagnoses the cause of electrical or mechanical malfunction or failure of operational equipment and performs preventative and corrective maintenance.
  • Is able to understand and initiate correction of electrical one-lines, schematics, wiring diagrams, layout drawings, and engineering specifications for system or equipment modifications or expansion.
  • Records data associated with periodic electrical testing, and recommends or initiates modification or replacement of equipment which fails to meet acceptable operating standards.

The successful candidate is experienced in all commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within the electrical field.

Min. Qualifications

Requires a high school diploma or equivalent (GED) education.

Five to ten years' experience working with industrial electrical power distribution equipment and systems.

The successful candidate must demonstrate a satisfactory level of technical and professional skills/knowledge in the electrical discipline by presenting or obtaining an NCCER certification in electrical maintenance.
