Engineering Systems Intern

Job Description

Under indirect supervision, the Engineering Systems Intern follows an engineer’s direction in the completion of project related tasks, installation procedure and other technical projects activities.

  • Work with the engineer to develop and execute global roll out project plan. Works on various phases of the plan, develop the documentation, Installation procedure and conduct the pilot test.
  • Use various engineering software packages – Solid Edge, Team Center etc.
  • Work with engineer on Advance Cad/Cam project initiative.
  • Develop a new project plan to define Gland plate shapes. Work with engineer how to start the project, develop the requirements, organized the meeting to figure the Gland shapes.
  • Responsible for ensuring that pertinent John Crane Drawing Standards and Procedures are followed in the completion of the project.
  • Create project detail using Excel or Microsoft Access program.
  • Help System Support team on various ongoing projects related tasks.
  • Check final 3D model drawings to verify completeness, clarity, and accuracy of drawings.
  • Get familiar with all Engineering Systems programs.
  • Work within different engineers in the group to help global users on various issues with solid edge and team center program.
  • Perform and monitor 3D Transition project output.
  • Additional duties and responsibilities will vary based upon departmental needs.
Position Requirements
  • A Mechanical engineering background or undergoing studies in Mechanical Engineering field from an accredited University.
  • Must be able to work independently or in coordination with an engineer in development of designs or adaptations requiring mechanical engineering skills.
  • Ability to use and interpret data from engineering programs
  • Must have good problem solving skills, which would include the ability to gather, correlate and present statistical data for review and use by an engineer or other parties toward the completion of an assigned project.
  • Experience in 3D Cad design, drafting and related technical assignments is a plus.
Physical/Mental Requirements
  • Must be able to sit for extend periods of time; a minimum of 2 hours.
  • Must be able to maneuver to all areas of the office, shop, warehouse, or manufacturing plant
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and carry up to 40 pounds.
  • Must be able to bend, reach, kneel, twist, and grip items while working at assigned desk area.
  • Must have the manual dexterity and coordination to operate office equipment.
  • Must be able to simultaneously manage several objectives, changing priorities and reassign priorities to complete assignments.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English.
  • Must be able to respond to visual and aural cues.
EHS Requirements
  • Additional duties and responsibilities will vary based upon departmental needs.
  • Complete all work in a safe manner and follow all safety requirements consistent with supporting the Company’s goals.
  • Lifting guidelines in accordance with the Manual Lifting Guidelines noted in the Safety Handbook.
  • Follow all environmental requirements consistent with supporting the company’s environmental performance goals.
  • Complete, and actively participate in all other EHS training requirements
Work Environment

Work environment is typically considered within a Smiths location during normal or extended business hours to include offices, manufacturing plants and repair facilities. Work environment may also include customer sites including oil well sites, and meeting venues.

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud and approved PPE is required when on the factory floor.
