GFP Dynamic NVH Engineer

Job Description

Primary Purpose:
Planning, execution, engineering analysis and support for Quality Department’s production vehicle drive process (ie – GFP Dynamic Audit Process) involving NVH (Noise Vibration Harshness); Pre-Production & Series vehicles, Model Year changes, etc. Engineering interface to R&D (Development Liaisons) for the evaluation and interpretation of vehicle noise/functional specifications (Body, Chassis, Powertrain).

 
 
Essential Functions:
Direct Engineering support for the GFP Audit Process (ie Dynamic) which performs long/short test track vehicle drives including but not limited to, noise, interior/exterior functions, and overall vehicle performance. Lead support for JDPower initiatives around any customer relevant topics pertaining to vehicle noises and functions.
 
Plan, conduct, and complete appropriate NVH  lab testing (ie – Hot/Cold Chamber, Shaker Booth, etc.) Identify issues through hands-on vehicle testing, vehicle evaluation and data assessment. Perform data processing and analysis, conduct root cause analysis, and recommend solutions for vehicle and component issues for the models we build.
 
Engineering Support thru the testing of shake, harshness, powertrain and drivetrain NVH, body and suspension isolation, road noise, HVAC systems, and other systems.
 
Perform NVH and Wind Noise subjective evaluations, investigate problem root causes, develop appropriate countermeasures, and summarize findings in reports; Support Team member training (ie – drivers)
 
Investigation, analysis and feedback of issues affecting vehicle noise/function delivering feedback to various Quality Loops for short/long term corrective action measures.
 
Participate in Cross-Functional teams with groups responsible for NVH development of body, chassis and power train utilizing both CAE and physical test.
 
Plan and allocate required manpower (including contract labor when needed) for the evaluation of GFP vehicles. Perform financial processes as needed for contract manpower (ex. purchase requisitions and monthly service receipts).
 
Communicate directly with management and TMs to answer, resolve, or provide guidance for all potential issues/ questions related to the vehicle in question.  Accurate summaries of quality concerns must be updated regularly to provide clear fault communication to the organization.  Launch risks must be highlighted.
 
Drive the problem resolution process for quality issues found during thru proper escalation models (Q-Forum, Steering Committee meetings, etc).  Progress and timing of countermeasures should be tracked.  Slow resolution of topics should be escalated to ensure issue resolution.
 
Support drive activities as needed to ensure vehicle maturity of both series and trial vehicles (ex. Q-Release drives, management reviews, Standard Week, etc.).

Job Requirements

Education, Experience and Necessary Skills all must be met in order to qualify for position.
 
Education:  Bachelors’ Degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Electrical Engineering or related area or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
     
Experience: 3 years minimum engineering experience in automobile development, especially in the area of Acoustics, Vehicle Dynamics and Chassis Engineering
 
 
Necessary Skills, Certifications, etc.:
Excellent skills/experience in use of conventional PC programs such as Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
Excellent language, communication, and organizational skills.
Work Experience in Computer Aided Design/Engineering, Finite Element Method, Noise Control, Mechanics of Materials
Work Experience in System Engineering, FMEA, Robustness, Reliability experience
Excellent skills/experience with coordination of time-critical processes.
Ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Highly motivated individual dedicated to customer satisfaction.
Proven experience in project management.
Experience with dynamic vehicle evaluations. 
 
 
Preferred Skills: Intermediate level of German language skills desired; Working experience of PLUS, and MRS system for report creation.
