Global Business Development Manager

Job Description

The Global Business Development Manager works to improve John Crane's market position and achieve financial growth within the Power Generation business vertical. This role will be the SME on Power Generation industries, specifically coal fire, gas fire, and nuclear. The position builds key and important customer relationships, identifies business opportunities, and maintains an extensive knowledge of current market conditions. The GBDM-PG pursues sales leads and prospective clients, develops business plans that may include marketing strategies, works with the sales organizations, strategic marketing team, and other stakeholders to increase sales opportunities and thereby maximize revenue for John Crane. 

  • Maintaining a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the Power Generation market and customers
  • Continually updating industry, product, competitor, and market knowledge and providing information to internal
  • stakeholders.
  • Identifying new markets defined both geographically and products & services, and generating revenue in these new markets by securing contracts with new customers.
  • Following up on post sales activities to ensure customer satisfaction, and working with internal resources to address and resolve issues that resulted in unsatisfied customers.
  • Coordinate sales efforts with marketing plans, programs and initiatives.
  • Manage a John Crane PG Sap Jam Group to interact with stakeholders
  • Following up on, and developing leads from the sales organizations and customers
  • Identifying and creating target lists for solutions and upgrades
  • Prioritizing target plans
  • Creating unique and innovative solutions to satisfy customer requirements
  • Reporting adherence to plan, i.e. develop tactics to mitigate market I consumer changes
  • Understanding the risks and technical/ service requirements within the opportunities
  • Aligning the necessary resources to execute the opportunity; provides the link to John Crane to the customer departments, including NPD, PLM, SLS, management, etc.
  • Communicating timely information via the appropriate sales IT tools and processes
  • Maintaining reporting documents/ reports as required
  • Fully supporting the achievement of Environmental, Health, Safety, and Quality assurance goals and procedures.
  • Drives account penetration in the Power Generation market by increasing market share and/or base.
  • Increases credibility and brand awareness of John Crane in the market
  • Mitigates the risk to John Crane in scalable, complex opportunities
  • Act as an ambassador of professional standards

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent work experience required.  
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in Power Generation industries with a spread knowledge across the different typologies of PG sectors
  • Willing and able to travel extensively globally including to counties with emerging economies; estimate 50-70%
  • Strong industry and market knowledge
  • Highly refined sales, business, and financial acumen with a consultative sales approach
  • Effective communication and presentation skills
  • Excellent influence and engagement ability
  • Ability to interact effectively with different cultures
  • Self-motivated, agile with tenacity to manage a long sales cycle
  • Highly competitive sales closer
  • Ability to train, coach, and mentor other stakeholders
  • Demonstrated executive presence that influences desired results with both external and internal stakeholders
  • Knowledge of a second language and working experience out of the country of origin would be a desired adder
