Hardware Design Engineer I

Job Description

Hardware Design Engineer I to work in Troy, Michigan: Assist, recommend, and implement customer requirements and specifications for circuit design and development of instrument cluster hardware. Develop and problem solve tasks with suppliers. Provide technical support to OEMs for development and problem solving tasks. Conduct design trade-off analysis, and capability studies. Study vehicle side interface and circuits. Assist in interfacing with the customer and internal engineering teams to define hardware requirements and specifications. Examine design feasibility by performing worst case circuit analysis. Prepare technical reports, design proposals, functional specifications, and project timelines to customers and leadership. Generate diagrams and schematics using circuit design software tools. Design  complex 32 BIT microcontroller unit (MCU) based circuits/systems; 32/64 BIT graphic processing unit (GPU) based systems; SMPS circuits with multiple voltage rails to support system design depending on component selection. Prepare component and sub-system level DFMEA documents. Design and build test switch boxes and harnesses. Analyze customer validation documents, develop test plans for electrical and EMC testing, supports DVP & R document creation, and coordinate validation schedule. Conduct vehicle level electrical functional test, and reports findings to hardware leadership and customer.  Complete tear-down analysis of competitor’s parts and documents design details. Analyze warranty return issues and implement necessary design changes in coordination other Hardware Engineers. Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Technology (or equivalent based on evaluation of academic credentials, training and/or experience) as well as twelve (12) months in job or job related experience to include assist, recommend, and implement customer requirements and specifications for circuit design and development of instrument cluster hardware; provide technical support to OEMs for development and problem solving tasks; study vehicle side interface and circuits;  assist in interfacing with the customer and internal engineering teams to define hardware requirements and specifications; examine design feasibility by performing worst case circuit analysis; prepare technical reports, design proposals, functional specifications, and project timelines to customers and leadership; analyze customer validation documents, develop test plans for electrical and EMC testing, supports DVP & R document creation, and coordinate validation schedule; conduct vehicle level electrical functional test, and reports findings to hardware leadership and customer.
