Position Description

  • The Head of Engineering leads the Engineering team as a technical expert and ensures technical delivery executed by the engineering team
  • This role performs the research, analysis, design, creation, and implementation of infrastructure systems to meet current and future user requirements
  • Includes working with service, integrator, and cloud service providers to modify and maintain existing systems to address changes in business processes
  • The lead network engineer will ensure service providers and integrators achieve contracted service delivery outcomes
  • They will be responsible for designing efficient and optimal networks, including local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), the internet, intranets, and other data communications systems, as well as all server and other technical assets

  • Competencies:Leading Change: Initiates and manages change; demonstrates flexibility; shows confidence in the face of ambiguity
    Supervisory Responsibility:This position is responsible for providing guidance, training, and supervision to reporting teams, including Network Engineer

    Job Requirements

    Essential Functions:
  • Develop team structure and select and onboard superior candidates. Perform leadership responsibilities including developing and coaching team members, building bench strength for future openings, and providing employees feedback on a regular basis to enable them to exceed their performance objectives and performance expectations.
  • Manage and execute against project plans and delivery commitments within an Agile/Scrum environment.
  • Allocate departmental people and financial resources to ensure project success across the enterprise.
  • Report on the status of engineering projects, quality, operations, and system performance to ownership and peers.
  • Develop an engineering plan that moves from an ITIL server and network engineering operations to an infrastructure as code and DevSecOps operations.
  • Manages and performs tasks related to MPLS, BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, LAN/WAN network design, and TCP/IP.
  • Manages and performs tasks related to wireless networking, including Cisco Meraki wireless and Cisco wireless controllers
  • Designs, implements, and troubleshoots any issues related to virtual network technologies, such as IPSEC, VPN, SD-WAN, and VRF/VRF-Lite.
  • Evaluates network and network device performance and tuning, including quality-of-service (QoS) configuration and makes recommendations for improvements.
  • Manages and maintains cloud-based networks (AWS).
  • Manages and maintains Palo Alto firewall devices.
  • Manages the WAN to SDWAN migration and Cloud connect (connectivity to public cloud)
  • Manages the design, deployment, and troubleshooting of technologies like SD-WAN or Viptela
  • Oversees QoS, class of services, and WAN optimization.
  • In the spirit of continuous improvement oversees system migrations, such as upgrading layer 2 and layer 3 Cisco devices to insure no system down time.
  • Performs network diagramming with the ability to present to technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • Creates HLD, LLDs, and BOM and demonstrates the solution to clients.
  • Maintains advanced knowledge in their areas of oversight, including, but not limited to the following:
  • Trunk, VTP, VLAN, STP, spanning tree, RSTP, and MSTPInventory of Cisco routers and switches, such as Cisco 4400, Cisco 4300, ASR 1000 series, and ASR 9000 series router and Cisco 9000, Cisco 3800, and Cisco N7K and N9K series switchesThe Palo Alto operating system (CLI) and browser interface systemAWS networking and associated troubleshootingDHCP, DNS, IPs, and IPAM appliances
  • Manages technical engineering for all server and application resources.
  • Creates and promotes a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Ensures compliance with all clients and affiliate policies, as well as all state and federal regulations.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to the client and Planned Parenthood's mission related to health equity, especially centering racial equity, and deep sense of accountability to community.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to learning about and enhancing practices related to racial equity and the impact of structural racism on healthcare systems.
  • Provides positive and development feedback and accountability related to practices including, but not limited to, equity.
