Information Technology Department - Systems Support Manager – Citizen Services

Job Description

This is a technical and administrative position. Responsibilities include supervising and managing the work of highly trained technical professionals performing a variety of specialized technical assistance functions for operational and programming sections of the ITD Citizen Services portfolio. The incumbent will be responsible for technical support work innovating, planning, designing, implementing, evaluating, and maintaining the IT application technology infrastructure. Coordinates and provides escalated support to users, while serving as an escalation point to analyze and provide solutions to complex technical tasks; managing and overseeing multiple technical projects of mission critical systems. 


This position entails directing the analysis of in-house and vendor software, determining corrective measures for hardware and software malfunctions, determining the most feasible design for interfaces between hardware applications systems, and establishing and enforcing software utilization standards.  Additional responsibilities include conducting feasibility and cost studies of new programs and installations. 


The position also entails supervisory functions to include but not limited to, acquisition, training, and development of Systems Programmers, Analysts, and other staff. Responsible for the scheduling and assigning of work, assuring best utilization of staff members; preparing performance evaluations; discussing work related problems with employees and initiating actions for performance improvement; holding meetings with staff to explain and discuss new or revised procedures; approving employee leave. 


General direction is received from an administrative superior who confers on application and operation problems and evaluates work for quality of results. The incumbent will understand the processes for their customers and the impact of modifications to any of the applications and systems; ability to identify application/operation problems and develop solutions.


Job Requirements

Bachelor's degree to include 15 semester credits in a computer related field are required. Eight years of progressively responsible experience in systems maintenance and problem determination are required.  Experience in a computer related field may substitute on a year-for-year basis for required education.
