Intermediate Applications Developer

About Applications Development at UPS Technology:

Our Application Development teams use their expertise in programming languages and software design to develop next-generation technology. They are responsible for developing the applications which track and move up to 38 million packages in a single day (4.7 billion annually). This team works closely with all of our customers to build innovative technologies that are customized to drive our business and provide the ultimate customer experience.  As a member of the applications development family, you will help UPS grow and provide valuable services across the globe.

About this role:

This Intermediate Applications Developer will be a member of a development team that is responsible for high performance, real-time applications that are critical to UPS operations.  Responsibilities will include participation in requirements analysis, system and software designs, coding, unit testing, product test support, and deployment support. The technical focus for this position is on the server-side (vs. GUI) implementation of real-time, database-driven applications, web services, and service management components written in C++, C#, and SQL using Microsoft Visual Studio and related toolsets. Systems also leverage Couchbase DB as well as Active MQ; experience with these products/platforms is a plus, not a requirement.

The Intermediate Applications Developer provides input and support for full systems life cycle management activities (e.g., analyses, technical requirements, design, coding, testing, implementation of systems and applications software, etc.).  The Intermediate Applications Developer will performs tasks within planned durations and established deadlines as well as collaborate with teams to ensure effective communication in supporting the achievement of objectives.  In addition, they will provide knowledge, development, maintenance, and support for applications.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience with Agile Development, C#.NET, Object Oriented Analysis & Design, SQL Programming and XML
  • 3-5 years software development experience on the Microsoft platform
  • Experience with all phases of the Software Development Life Cycle using the Agile methodology
  • Experience implementing high transaction web services
  • Experience writing technical documentation, including but not limited to software design specifications, interface specifications, and user manuals
  • Ability to take direction, work collaboratively as a member of a team, and interact effectively and professionally with other developers, QA personnel, management, and representatives of the business. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively to a wide range of audiences

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Couchbase DB and Active MQ are considered a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering (Systems, Computer, or Electrical)
  • Master's degree preferred
