The Lab Supervisor is responsible for leading activities and personnel in EC USCA PAD laboratories. The basic function of the position is to ensure that the EC USCA PAD laboratories operate at a world class level for safety, accuracy, and efficiency. The Lab Supervisor will oversee the execution of testing and development of improved procedures and processes to enhance the team's impact on the business by effectively collaborating with our customers, PAD engineers, other LYB laboratories, marketing, sales, manufacturing, and business leadership. This position is responsible for guiding and developing the EC USCA PAD Lab technicians and will report into the Innovation & Lab Manager.
Roles & Responsibilities

Support Goal Zero, safety, housekeeping, and compliance policies and practices. Operate in a safe, clean, and productive manner. Ensure that all safety and housekeeping policies are followed by team. Support efforts to enhance the safety of Lyondellbasell operations. Promote all aspects of the Lyondellbasell Health, Safety, and Environmental guidelines.
Oversee Lab Operations
Ensure that laboratories operate in a safe and productive manner. Develops and implements regular scheduling with the goal of meeting timing needs of internal customers when possible, and prioritizing in collaboration with internal customers when it is not possible to meet all needs. Develop and refine operating practices so as to continually improve accuracy and efficiency of lab operations. Ensures that test results are reported promptly and that key observations are reported to internal customers. Assist in the development and improvement of testing capability and procedures. Oversees activities so that good documentation practices are followed. Ensure QC Calibration Program is properly maintained. Ensure compliance to ASTM, ISO, and / or customer mandated protocols, when applicable. Ensure the accuracy of work instructions, laboratory standards, calculations, and reporting generated by Laboratory Technicians. Establish and maintain a system that insures compliance with the technology budget. Identify and justify capital expense items and oversee the installation and set-up of new equipment or constructions.
Analytical Services Support
Develops new or improves existing test methods that can be used to more accurately evaluate or predict material performance. Coordinates with other internal technical centers to translate best practices or in development of new evaluation methods. Assist internal customers (Commercial, Quality, Process Engineers, PAD, etc) through the use of cause/effect evaluations to gain an understanding of the causes and corrections for material failures. Conduct analysis to gain knowledge of the capabilities and composition of competitive materials. Collect samples and submit for outside testing as appropriate. Support the business by serving in role of internal auditor.
People Leadership & Global Collaboration:
Complete personnel management responsibilities (e.g. performance evaluations, performance feedback, etc.) per company timelines. Help team members build effective development plans. Trains all pertinent personnel in the methods and equipment used to prepare and evaluate composite materials. Collaborate with other functions and regions of the business. Responsible for all management responsibilities for team.
The position requires an associates or bachelors degree. Degrees in polymer science or engineering, material science or engineering, mechanical engineering, composites engineering, or chemistry are preferred.
At least 5 years of industrial laboratory experience is required. Polymer or composites processing and testing knowhow is a plus.
