Linux Systems Administrator

Your responsibilities in this role

Essential Functions:
Specific duties include but are not limited to:
•Install new / rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements. Delegation of these tasks may occur to System Administration 1-4 staff.
•Configure, provision, and administer Storage Area Network (SAN).
•Provide improvements in installation and configuration procedures.
•Research and recommend innovation, and where possible automated approaches for system administration tasks. Identify approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale.
•Reviews results of system monitoring reports with System Administration 1-4, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of system backups.
•Ensure all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media, recovery tapes or disks are created, and media is recycled and sent off site as necessary.
•Create, change, and delete user accounts following IEEE procedures.
•Investigate and troubleshoot issues, along with providing root cause analysis.
•Repair and recover from hardware or software failures. Coordinate and communicate with impacted customers and peers.
•Research, plan, and apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis using automated tools, and upgrade administrative tools and utilities.
•Upgrade and configure system software that supports project work or operational needs.
•Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning.
•Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required. Configure CPU, memory, and disk partitions as required.
•Follow Project Lifecycle processes, which may include involvement with Business Case Study or Business Requirements Documentation. Provide IT Project Managers and System Analyst guidance on task timelines, work effort, and costs.
•Manage vendor relationships in server hardware, storage, and maintenance contracts.
•Participate in Business Continuity planning, testing, and execution.
•Lead Data Center infrastructure planning in coordination with Enterprise Architect, and maintain Data Center computing equipment following best business practices.
•Lead certain infrastructure related projects while following project management practices.
•Ability to provide mentoring to System Administrator 1-4 on supporting technology, best business practices.

Job Requirements

Education and Experience: • Bachelor (4-year) degree, with a technical major, such as engineering or computer science or 10 years related IT experience • 10+ years of experience working with enterprise class server platforms such as Windows 2008/2012/2016, RedHat Enterprise Linux with a strong focus on VMWare • 3+ years of experience storage arrays, Fiber Channel (FC) and SAN’s Skills & Other Requirements: • In-depth knowledge of storage arrays, Fiber Channel (FC) and SAN’s including broad and deep knowledge of EMC VMAX, EMC Isilon, and EMC Data Domain and their applications • Knowledge of infrastructure at the network, load balancers (F5), security, and storage layers • Knowledge of backup and recovery such as EMC Networker and EMC Data Domain • Very strong communication skills and analytical aptitude with the ability to express technical concepts effectively, both verbal and in written form • Ability to work independently and in team • That data center environment is maintained 24x7.
