Data Center Technician

JOB SUMMARY



Brooksource is hiring a System Administrator with a to join a RHEL-focused (versions 5,6 and 7) team of other system admins to maintain, support and configure our client's data center in both a NOC and office environment. The ideal candidate might be more Unix/Linux/RHEL focused, but have exposure/ hands on working experience with Linux as well. This resource will provide support to the 3rd shift of the Data Center working 4, 10 hour shifts a week.




Daily operations include, but are not limited to:

  • Troubleshooting, configuration changes, and support for RHEL systems and RHEL technologies.
  • Provide 24 X FOREVER operational support for systems and environments through TASK tickets, triaging incident bridges, change tickets as well as requests via email, phone calls or the IT SOC.


MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintains and supports Data Center operations including server hardware, systems software, applications software, and all configurations changes required on Microsoft systems
  • Recommends any improvement to data center systems and provides documentation to the IT Supervisor and leadership
  • Responsible for 24 X FOREVER support, including troubleshooting server problems as reported by users, via incoming ticket queues, leadership and the IT SOC
  • Uses established CAB change management processes, requiring operational procedures be performed with minimal customer impact
  • Working knowledge of hardware products such as Dell, HP, Cisco, IBM and other Data Center hardware platforms
  • Working operational knowledge of visualized platforms such as ESX (VMWare) and Hyper-V (Microsoft)
  • Provides maintenance support of Data Center systems including patching of Unix systems and other Linux technology platforms
  • Closely follows procedures for monitoring and evaluates, diagnoses and establishes work plan to resolve system issues within defined SLAs as set forth by the IT Supervisor and IT leadership
  • Performs real time incident triage/ troubleshooting for complex hardware, software and network problems as required by the IT Supervisor, leadership and the IT SOC
  • Knowledge of patching technologies such as SCCM, Managed Engine and/ or other patching solutions


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be proficient in MS Office
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well with all levels of business users in a professional manner
  • Ability to lift 40 lbs
  • Ability to perform after-hours tasks
  • Increased knowledge and ability to make decisions around service ticket requests utilizing software such as Remedy Intermediate level knowledge of system administration tasks and ability to perform more advanced research and recommend approaches for resolution


EDUCATION

  • BA/BS in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field or equivalent work experience
  • RedHat or Solaris specific training course


RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE

  • 2-3 years of related IT work experience
  • Extensive experience with Solaris 10 and RedHat 5.x and 6.x is mandatory
  • LVM, Volume Manger/VCS, Solaris Volume Manager, ZFS, Solaris Zones, OpenLdap, RHN Satellite, and MPXIO/MPIO multi-pathing technologies
