Mechanical and electrical design a variety of jigs/equipment to support TBA's in-house manufacturing processes. Items include inspection & assembly jigs, machine modifications, and new equipment. Assemble, debug, and install entire machines, tooling, and/or systems in a timely manner to meet customer requirements. Coordinates and performs precision, mechanical assembly of large, custom machine tools and equipment. Responsibilities include fitting and aligning slides, ball screws, jibs, large bearings, and similar components working from blueprints. Utilizes the Toyota Production System and engineering skills to perform machine building functions for new equipment.
II. Essential Job Functions:
Organize, plan, and execute all phases of machine, tooling, or system design.
Create BOM for new machine or modified components.
Review specifications and other data, measure dimensions, and develop mechanical layouts.
Plan, develop, and draw solid models, details, and assembly drawings using AutoCAD (mechanical design).
Attend design review meetings to add input into machine conception and functionality.
Finalize designs after necessary testing and modifications.
Coordinate and/or assemble all aspects of a machine or multi-system from drawings and/or verbal instructions.
Fabricate and rework critical machine components as required.
Use knowledge of pneumatic functions, devices and fittings, to achieve desired results.
Adjust cam timing and rotary positions (i.e., indexing units) as necessary.
Use knowledge of OSHA requirements for machine safety devices and guards.
Interface with assemblers, machine builders, electricians, controls technicians, and programmers on shop floor to provide assistance and direction.
Participate in vendor on-site acceptance (i.e. bowl, track feeding, etc) and perform in-house acceptance run-off.
Perform machine parts and assembly modifications as required, interfacing with engineering when changes are major or of a critical nature.
Modify existing tooling/fixtures for improvements of current production to facilitate or improve production.
Record changes to machine parts and assemblies on engineering drawings.
Interface with PE and plants on a regular basis regarding machines, tooling, and/or systems.Debug entire machine(s) with engineering, as necessary.
Install and service machines at customer's site as required.
Train customer's personnel on machine operations and maintenance.
Support development of machine technical documentation and assembly documentation including operating instructions, troubleshooting procedures, spare parts lists, technical information, drawings, and programs.
Meet regularly with project managers and engineers to understand the needs and requirements for a new product or mechanical system. May assist with determining components, materials, specifications, and BOM
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering required, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
Must be able to work flexible hours to support production on all shifts during new product launch.
Must be able to assemble fabricated parts in accordance with Bill of Material (BOM), engineering drawings, and specifications.
Strong mechanical experience and aptitude.
Knowledge of properties and dynamics of materials
Ability to fit and align components.
Basic machining and welding skills.
Working knowledge of NAAMS Standard practices.
Good automotive build practices.
Floor layout capabilities.
Must be able to write operation manuals.
Strong ability to read component, assembly and equipment drawings and blueprints.

Solid working knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office and other computer-based applications (e.g., MS Word, MS PowerPoint, Lotus Outlook, Internet, etc.).
Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel, AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, File Translators, and 3D Modeling software. CATIA 5 experience is preferred.
Must be capable of building component libraries for SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
Must be capable of working with file translations from CATIA 5 and/or UG NX.
Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) experience is a plus.
Office: Open Office Environment, moderate noise level while performing manufacturing automotive production engineering operations.
Plant: Standard automotive plant environment with moderate noise level. PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) such as safety glasses, steel toe shoes, hearing protection, etc. may be required in engineering, manufacturing, or industrial areas. Personal attire standards may apply.
Travel: Up to 30% travel required at times to our vendors and plants (Mississippi, Indiana, Michigan, Kentucky, Canada, Argentina, Brazil and Japan).
While performing the duties of this job, the team member is required to talk, see, and hear. The team member must be capable of walking, sitting, and standing for extended periods of time. May be occasionally required to lift up to 50 pounds.
