General Description

The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for designing tooling and systems for use in the performance of AZZ WSI’s specialty repair service offering.  This individual will be responsible to resolve routine technical issues, and review the work prepared by others. The individual will work under the direction of a Sr. Engineer and or the Director of Engineering. The job will include tooling and machine design development, involvement in the mockup testing of project equipment, generation of tooling design documentation and assistance with crew technical training.

For highly technical field implementation projects the Mechanical Engineer may be assigned to the field implementation project team where he/she will fulfill the duties of a Field Tooling Engineer and in this capacity support the Site Manager in meeting the technical requirements of the field scope.

Education, Certifications, Licenses & Registrations:

BS in Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering is required, BS in Physical Sciences may be considered based on experience.

Experience

3 years product development and related design engineering or 6 years related technologies engineering and manufacturing is required.

Specialized Knowledge and Skills

  • Involvement in design of precision tooling components for automation and mechanisms is required.
  • Involvement in design of precision tooling components for automation and mechanisms is required.
  • Computer Skills (SolidWorks Modeling CAD/CAE Software Expertise, Microsoft Word, Excel).
  • Working knowledge of machine or robotic welding or similar equipment is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of computer-based motion control hardware and associated software is preferred
  • Experience with design engineering documentation standards.
  • Knowledge of machine design principles including tolerancing, gear train design, strength of materials, motors, bearings, position feedback, human engineering.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of electronic control systems a plus.
  • Must have or be able to attain and maintain unescorted access to a nuclear, refinery and petrochemical sites.
  • Requires minimal technical direction from supervisor or other experienced engineering personnel on complex tasks.
  • Basic FEA knowledge including stress analysis, fatigue analysis and fracture analysis is a plus.


Essential Duties

  • Perform tooling design tasks and, when assigned, provide direction of tooling design teams for the completion of tooling system projects.
  • Provides mentoring and technical direction to less experienced engineering personnel.
  • Provide support for planned and emergent customer scopes as needed for the completion of WSI repair scopes.
  • Responsible for scope, schedule and budget for assigned projects and tasks.
  • Generate and maintain tooling documentation in accordance with WSI’s practices and procedures.
  • Work in cooperation with the engineering team in the performance of their function.


Work Environment

General office and shop work environment.

Physical Demands

Sitting, standing, walking, lifting up to 30 lbs., ability to work in an industrial field environment.

Schedule

Full Time

Travel

Travel approximately 15% of the time to customer sites which may include the construction sites.
