Oracle Engineer

Job Description



Job Overview:
Responsible for:
1. Assisting the client Oracle Engineers and our service provider to deliver a highly available, resilient and performant database environment;
2. Providing L3 operational expertise by resolving incidents, problem management tasks, performance and operational issues escalated to L3, assisting application personnel as needed and participating in weekly coverage rotation;
3. Designing and implementing Oracle databases that meet business and infrastructure team requirements, utilizing replication as a data migration tool to reduce downtime
4. Providing project level engineering direction and expertise by interfacing with the client Oracle Engineering team to obtain/confirm direction and technologies

Qualifications:
  • 8+ years of proven Oracle DBA experience (Oracle Certifications a plus)
  • 8+ years of proven experience with Oracle High-Availability solutions - including Oracle Data Guard (Logical and Physical); Maximum Availability Architecture and handling role-transitions;
  • Expertise with Oracle Database Performance Tuning - troubleshooting SQL Plan stability/regression and migrating SQL plans between databases;
  • Expertise with Oracle RAC (11g/12c) environment - both CDB and non-CDB;
  • Expertise with Oracle RAC workload management using Services, IORM, Database Resource Manager;
  • Expertise with RDBMS management tools such as Quest Toad and OEM 11g/13c (Experience with OEM Administration including creating custom reports a plus);
  • Exceptional scripting and automation skills using shell scripts, PERL, Python and integration with automation tools - notably Ansible;
  • Exceptional RMAN experience and ability to perform any type of backup, restore, migration, data corruption repair, etc;
  • Strong experience administering VLDB (10TB+ databases);
  • Strong experience providing level 3 expertise to Oracle operations support (L1/L2) teams on rotating 24x7 basis;
  • Strong experience in Oracle 11g/12c/18c installation, upgrade/migration, support & troubleshooting - including key new features and their usage;
  • Strong experience in administering large enterprise database environments;
  • Ability to effectively communicate both written and verbally to peers and management;
  • Ability to deliver quality work on projects/incidents under pressure and in high stress situations;
  • Self-motivated, fast learner and team-player a must.

    Responsibilities:
  • Working with client Oracle Engineers and our service provider to deliver a highly available, resilient and performant database environment;
  • Assisting the client Oracle Engineers with operations escalations, applications team escalations, database/SQL performance issues and Problem Management tasks;
  • Providing project level engineering direction and expertise by interfacing with the client Oracle Engineering team to obtain/confirm direction and technologies;
  • Providing rotating Level 3 on-call coverage as scheduled;
  • Building new, or upgrading / patching existing databases and associated software in accordance with vendor best practices;
  • Delivering required database functionality that meets project requirements on or before defined due date;
  • Install, configure and maintain Oracle Golden Gate for use as a database migration tool and for bi-directional replication;
  • Translate a logical data model and user specifications into a physical design and ensuring the detailed physical design of data structures and database complies with enterprise build and configuration standards and processes;
  • Create physical database structures based on physical design for development, test, production and DR environments;
  • Install, configure, and maintain Oracle software on database and application servers as required;
  • Provide consultation to application development teams on Oracle database technical issues and techniques;
  • Database performance testing and tuning, user configuration, security and support processes including gather stats, database backup/recovery, partition administration, etc;
  • Ensuring client Oracle database environment is secure, providing recommendations for improving database security and implementing approved security improvements;
  • Coordinating downtime with application teams and system engineers to implement approved changes;
  • Interfacing with Oracle support or the Oracle Solution Support Center to resolve operational issues or questions;
  • Following established IT / DBA policies and procedures
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.
