Plant Engineering I.T. - Project Manager

Job Description

Are you looking to expand your career horizons? UPS is seeking a Maximo Systems Engineer to be the principal owner of Maximo at UPS. This position will have the primary responsibility of supporting Maximo and its user community including coordination with internal information technology (IT) groups that support infrastructure (e.g. security, database, etc.); coordinating software enhancements, performing system troubleshooting and testing; developing requirements documents for system enhancements; supporting system configuration changes; and providing hands-on, day-to-day support for Maximo applications. The position will also provide support, documentation and training, testing, and make configuration changes for its mobile application and users.

The Maximo Systems Engineer manages project lifecycles, including project scope, resources, schedule, initiation, design, building, and deployment to see projects from beginning-to-end and works with stakeholders to obtain sign-off, agreement on project costs, and needed resources. The ideal candidate will ensure affected functions and/or groups are identified and works with them to negotiate process changes, ownership of processes, and to manage project impact and designs and implements communication plans to ensure those affected by projects are informed and updated. The Maximo Systems Engineer reviews business requirements to understand the scope of projects, consults with design engineers to discuss the feasibility of projects and reviews project objectives to assign the roles and responsibilities to project groups. He/She also provides training and technical support to end users. He/She manages and analyzes data, strategies and performance of the maintenance program in Plant Engineering.

This position is open to two locations: Mahwah, NJ and Atlanta/Sandy Springs, GA.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Serves as Primary Maximo System Administrator including support of system upgrades in the Maximo product as well as support for multi-languages, and configuration changes in the product
  • Works cross-functionally to identify and implement alternative processes using technology to improve efficiency
  • Oversees the development, quality and implementation of training courses and materials (i.e., instructor-led or Computer Based Training [CBT]); conducts training using presentations, hands-on demonstrations, curriculum guides and testing materials
  • Develops and publishes value-added reports to measure the effectiveness of work execution, business compliance and PM program effectiveness
  • Promotes new systems and technology and works with others to troubleshoot and alleviate inefficiencies

Knowledge and Skills

  • Applies working knowledge of physical asset management and allocation, including financial and operational impact; calculates value or depreciation of standard physical assets; identifies issues
  • Develops plans that balance details and big picture; completes work with thoroughness; maintains organized records; audits for inconsistencies; maintains documentation that supports details, decisions and completion of work
  • Develops procedures for preventative maintenance of equipment; describes impact of poorly performing equipment on safety and operations
  • Applies established procedures for responding to incidents; documents information pertinent to incidents; communicates resolutions/results
  • Develops project management plans and leads implementations; supports initiatives with well-defined project needs and cross-functional roles/responsibilities throughout project lifecycle; manages resistance to cross-functional project demands; employs project management tools and technology (e.g., Microsoft Project, Program Management Group website, etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems
  • Experience identifying internal customer needs
  • Excellent communication skills and detail orientation
  • Availability to travel with short notice, 1-2 times per month
  • 5+ years' experience with Maximo administration including installation and upgrade of Maximo Asset Management versions 7.5 or higher
  • 5+ years' experience administering and managing Websphere versions 7.x or higher
  • 2+ years' experience with Multi-Org and Multi-Site implementation
  • Knowledge of basic programming fundamentals
  • Experience supporting I.T. server environments on Windows and Linux
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite 
  • Fundamental database design and administration experience, including writing and debugging SQL queries, and experience with Oracle - Preferred 
  • Bachelor’s Degree (or internationally comparable degree) in Engineering or Computer Science - Preferred
