Purpose of Job

The EMC Principal Engineer is responsible for predicting and preventing potential EMC challenges, recommending optimized designs, and resolving EMC challenges. This individual has the responsibility to ensure the product meets EMC performance requirements as well as take ownership on resolving EMC issues. The job includes but is not limited to reviewing EMC test plans for instrument clusters and / or HUD assemblies and components, EMC simulations, EMC Schematic Design Reviews, EMC Artwork Design Reviews, and EMC Product Design Reviews, supporting other areas of engineering from concept to production.  This individual needs to have a strong technical and leadership background to do engineering calculations, simulations, and solve EMC related design challenges.

Major Duty / Responsibility of Job1.25% •Review circuit and artwork designs for EMC best practices to meet the customer specifications.•Reviews instrument cluster and HUD product structure for EMC best practices and provides design optimizations to meet the customer specifications.•Review Test Plans and provide recommendations to improve testing setup and DUT control. 2.25%
  • Manage and debug EMC failures with design engineers, providing countermeasure recommendations.
  • Manage, maintain and update proper operational procedures of all test equipment including spectrum analyzers, EMC receivers, preamplifiers, quasi-peak adapters, signal/impulse generators, antennas, oscilloscopes, near field probes, etc.

  • Responsible to create, define and maintain EMC best practices database and checklist for circuit design and artwork.
  • Responsible to develop and maintain processes related to EMC.

  • Manage, analyze and interpret customer specifications for the instrument cluster, HUD, EMC designs.
  • Research advanced EMC design theory in the technical areas of shielding, filtering, grounding, bonding, cabling, gasketing, waveguides, printed circuit board layout methods, and testing methods and processes.

  • Responsible to develop, manage and maintain an EMC benchmark database to improve future designs.
  • Responsible for research and development of new and innovative solutions to improve designs for EMC compliance.
  • Improve designs while taking into consideration of constraints and tradeoffs to achieve effective EMI mitigation techniques.

  • Create Emission and Immunity Simulations to predict compliance.
  • Prepare Power Integrity and Signal Integrity Noise Simulation.
  • Recommend and implement Simulation Tool Applications.
  • 7.5% •Track and provide regular status updates on project activities and progress to leadership.•Provide EMC training, coaching, and mentoring to engineering teams.

    Education, Experience and Knowledge

    Required and/or preferred level of education, knowledge and skills that are necessary.

    Education •Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or equivalent as a minimum. Master’s degree is preferred. Related Experience •8 – 10 years of comprehensive experience in electrical engineering and mechanical principals.•Expert knowledge of industry EMC standards as well as OEM EMC standard.•Work requires the ability to use EMC simulation tools to predict design challenges.•Working knowledge of CISPR 25, ISO 11452, ISO 7637, ISO 10605, and other industry standards (e.g. IATF 16949).•Strong EMC and launch experience in the automotive industry.•Work requires the ability to use EMC simulation tools to predict design challenges.•Working knowledge of CISPR 25, ISO 11452, ISO 7637, ISO 10605, and other industry standards (e.g. IATF 16949).•Strong EMC and launch experience in the automotive industry.•Working knowledge of all Microsoft Office products.•Ability to plan and organize with attention to detail and following through.•Work independently as well as within a team environment.•Significant and extensive experience in simulation, design, analysis, troubleshooting, testing.•Solid understanding of Electromagnetic, Microwave, Antenna, Circuit Theory.
