REMOTE Systems Engineer Team Lead - Job KB242979

My name is David Slaymaker and my company, Analysts/American Cybersystems is seeking to fill an exciting full-time Systems Engineer Team Lead position to support the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) at the Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS) Center (http://eros.usgs.gov/). While the Center is located near Sioux Falls, SD, this is a REMOTE position.

The successful candidate will receive $130,000 to $145,000 (based upon experience/negotiable) to perform an integral commission for the Land Processes Distributed Active Archive Center (LP AAC, AAC,  https://lpdaac.usgs.gov), a National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) funded project by performing all facets of systems engineering for the USGS Landstat (a geospacial project's archive and access System.

Additional Background Information: The LP DAAC operates as a partnership between the USGS and NASA and is a component of NASA's Earth Observing System Data and Information System (EOSDIS). Data scientists, system engineers, user service representatives, and outreach staff work together to support LP DAAC activities and distribute data to the science user community.

Job Requirements

Key Responsibilities:

  • The System Engineer (SE) Team Lead guides the Requirements Capabilities Analysis for Earth
    Observation (RCA-EO) technical team and provide direction to other development activities for
    the ECCOE Project.
  • Evaluates new applications, system requirements, developments in field of
    expertise, and evolving business needs to recommend appropriate solutions and alternatives.
  • Uses specialized knowledge or skills to solve complex and unique problems, and direct the
    daily activities of development teams.
  • Establishes priorities for the completion of assigned tasks.
  • Uses judgment to interpret internal and external issues and develop best practices.
  • Directs resources and provide guidance to less experienced team members.
  • Relies upon experience, interpersonal skills, and broad knowledge of field to ensure task completion in compliance with policies, procedures, and business strategy.

Required Skills:

  • Experience with the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
  • Ability to understand and develop roadmaps, requirements, operational concepts, and other
    documentation
  • Experience leading teams using both waterfall and agile development methods
  • Ability to conduct trade studies for technology upgrades, hardware options, and software
  • Ability to plan and manage scope, schedule, and budget
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to explain technical details and issues clearly to non-technical individuals and be able to explain system concepts and problems clearly and concisely
  • Ability to provide leadership and guidance for a range of tasks from formal software
    development to fast paced research and development activities
  • Ability to lead and interface effectively with other engineering staff of a multi-disciplined team, including strong interpersonal and team skills
  • Ability to interact with USGS Government customers, external partners, and team members to
    develop and deploy ECCOE tools and operational software
  • Strong verbal communication and writing skills
  • U.S Citizenship or prior 3 years residency in U.S.

Good to have skills:

  • Experience in image processing, data archiving systems, database management and design,
    software development, etc.
  • Experience working with or architecting Cloud solutions
  • Experience using SharePoint, JIRA, and Confluence
