The scientist performs assigned research and development activities using defined scientific principles and practices, working with other stakeholders to achieve desired results. Works independently with general supervision on moderately complex projects and assignments.
Frequently uses and applies technical principles, theories, concepts and techniques to develop and improve medical devices. Special focus on point-of-care in vitro coagulation testing, polymer-based hemocompatible coatings and surface characterizations.
Authors protocols, and test methods in support of product characterization, verification, and validation.
Performs a variety of duties including chemical reagent formulation, blood sample preparation, test device coating, functional product testing and troubleshooting issues.
Conducts qualitative and quantitative assays from non-detailed instructions (e.g., ELISA, chromogenic and clotting based assays).
Identifies, defines and addresses problems that are not immediately evident and of moderate complexity.
Interprets results, writes clear, accurate reports using appropriate documentation methods.
Participates in root cause analysis and data mining.
Follows good lab practices and assumes partial to full responsibility in lab equipment qualification and maintenance.
Ensures lab compliance with all safety and quality standards. Follows all work/quality procedures to ensure safe testing and quality system compliance.
