Security Automation Intern

Job Description

Summary:

The Security Automation Intern is a member of the Security Testing Team and reports to the Manager of OS & Network Testing. The role's overall responsibility is to assist in the development of efficient scripts to automate various security operations processes.

Job Details:

  • Create and enhance existing automation scripts written in the Python scripting language utilizing common data formats such as XML and JSON as well as common data querying tools such as Xpath and Regular Expressions
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of various security operations services including vulnerability scanning, configuration assessments, and network segmentation testing
  • Assist in the development and enhancement of custom scripts to automate security operations processes
  • Gain work experience with a growing Information Security organization in a fortune 1000 Financial Services company
  • Gain practical experience with industry-leading security technologies
  • Interact and collaborate with a diverse set of internal Business and IT departments
  • Gain experience working on individual and team initiatives

Requirements:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer or Software Engineering, Computer Science, Information Management, Information Science or a related technical field
  • Basic understanding of information security or information technology roles preferred
  • Basic understanding of operational process design and engineering preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to interact and communicate with technical and non-technical audiences
  • Strong time management skills and experience handling multiple initiatives with competing priorities
  • Strong analytical and technical skills
  • Ability to develop custom scripts using common scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell, VBA)
  • Experience working in a service-oriented information security or information technology group preferred
  • In-depth knowledge of common internet protocols (e.g., DNS, HTTP) preferred
  • Security knowledge across multiple security domains and technologies (e.g., operating systems, databases, networking, applications, identity and access management) preferred
  • Strong knowledge of and experience working in Windows and Linux environments
  • Experience working with APIs (e.g., SOAP, RESTful) preferred
  • Experience working with common data formats (e.g., CSV, XML, JSON, Syslog, CEF) preferred
  • Ability to develop custom ETL and reporting scripts using common data querying languages/tools (e.g., Regular Expressions, XPath, XQuery, SQL, grep) preferred
  • Experience performing security testing activities (e.g., application assessments, penetration testing, vulnerability assessments) a plus but not required for this position
  • Experience programming in object-oriented languages (e.g., C++, C#, Java) a plus but not required for this position


Certifications:

  • Possession of industry certifications including, but not limited to, Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), GIAC Web Application Penetration Testing (GWAPT), GIAC Network Penetration Testing (GPEN), Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), and Offensive Security Certified Professional (OSCP) a plus but not required for this position
