Senior Embedded Software Engineer

As Senior Embedded Software Engineer - you will perform a variety of embedded engineering software work requiring the application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria in carrying out a sequence of related engineering tasks. This position will plan, direct, coordinate and control engineering efforts on a major project or multiple smaller projects and provide expert analysis regarding the design, development, implementation and testing of technical products and systems. Incumbents receive general instruction regarding required tasks and expected results. Tasks typically relate to design, test, verification and reliability of mechanical and electromechanical food service products and systems.

Reporting directly to the Director Electronic Controls, this position is based at Welbilt's headquarters in New Port Richey, Florida.

Major Accountability:

  • Work on new product designs, product improvements, test analysis, production and service liaisons.
  • Prepare detailed analysis, test, performance, schedule, and cost information as required.
  • Responsible for timely, cost effective design, analysis, development and implementation of embedded software systems.
  • Performs engineering work related to real-time bare metal, embedded Linux, and other real-time RTOS implementations.
  • Expert in C and/or C++, as well as low-level peripheral implementations on micro-controllers.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Prepare concept sketches, detail drawings, design models and specification documents for product designs.
  • Prepare root cause analysis, test performance, schedule and cost information, as required.
  • Prepare progress reports, feasibility and concept studies, etc., as required.
  • Assist in the preparation of manuals and sales literature on assigned projects.


Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Engineering is required.
  • Minimum of 8 years of embedded systems experience is required.
  • Understands design theory and has demonstrated the ability to read and prepare code analysis and review.
  • Expert in fundamental embedded engineering code principles, concepts, practices and procedures of a field of specialization.
  • Strong project and time management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal interpersonal communication skills.
  • Foodservice industry knowledge or experience is a plus.
  • Ability to travel up to 15% of the time.
  • Must be able to lift or move up to 50 pounds.
