Senior I.T. Facilities Engineer

Job Description

The Senior IT Facilities Engineer provides Level 3 support and engineering to ensure proper day-to-day operation of the Firm's data center foundational infrastructure. The IT Facilities Engineer is a key member of the Data Center Operations team and is responsible for the overall design of data center related solutions using best practices, design patterns, and existing assets.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Ensures distribution of power within the co-location data center spaces, local office computer rooms and IDF rooms.
• Ensures prompt repair of any failed or degraded equipment.
• Ensures proper operation and maintenance of all equipment.
• Assists in managing contractors and vendors that perform work in the co-location data center spaces and local office computer rooms and IDF rooms.
• Schedules and coordinates regular maintenance on all equipment.
• Works with building engineers as needed to maintain proper service levels and maintenance on share resources.
• Regularly evaluates existing Data Center environments, design solutions that address issues, life cycle and implements service improvements and efficiencies.
• Publishes and maintains local office computer room standards, working with Regional Directors to ensure proper compliance.
• Delivers technology solutions to meet firm’s strategic goals to enhance operational effectiveness and productivity.
• Works with IT project managers as needed to ensure project level tasks are assigned and completed.
• Works directly with members of the IT Engineering and Network Services teams to ensure proper placement of equipment based on power and cabling requirements
• Regularly evaluates existing processes and recommends process improvements based on current and future needs of the Firm.
• Works with other members of IT, educating them on best practices of maintaining and supporting data centers.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

• This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

This job requires:

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science,
and,

• Minimum of 5 years of Information Technology Systems and Data Center experience
or, equivalent combination of education and experience.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
To perform the job successfully, an individual must demonstrate the following knowledge skills and abilities:

• Knowledge of the electrical and mechanical systems used in a data center environment, including Feeders, Transformers, Generators, Switchgear, UPS systems, Air handling units and CRAC units.
• Knowledge of enterprise storage systems, servers and networking equipment
• Thorough command of the industry language and the ability to effectively communicate technical information to a variety of technical and non-technical users.
• Ability to organize and prioritize multiple assignments, use initiative and judgment to accomplish results, participate as a team leader or member of a team, work under pressure and complete job assignments in an accurate, timely and professional manner.
• Strong presentation, communication, interpersonal and customer service skills required and ability to interact effectively and professionally with all learning styles, personality types and levels of management, staff and a variety of external entities including clients and prospective clients of the Firm.
• Ability to travel (limited) to the Firm’s other offices as necessary.
• Possesses well-developed technical documentation, project management and facilitation skills.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business and professional publications, prepare business correspondence, proposals and reports, effectively present information to groups of employees, and respond to questions from employees, managers, clients and vendors.
• Advanced arithmetic skills (compute rate, ratio, percent; able to draw and interpret graphs and charts)
• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw conclusions

COMPUTER SKILLS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must have a basic knowledge of / be proficient in the following software:

• Microsoft Office products.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
