Sr. Advanced Manufacturing Engineer

Job Description

This position will be responsible for operational readiness of new product releases. It will involve working intimately with the NPD and site level operations and product teams from TG1 approval through TG6. Key deliverables will be: Launch OTD, product and project cost to TG2 contract, FPY & OTD of FAI's, IPPM and EPPM of new product releases. This position requires a strong leader who is capable of and committed to providing input to the core development team through the lens of the operations team (DFM, producibility). 100% of the job focus will be on achieving the project deliverables and delivering a robust product and processes to the manufacturing cell.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead PFMEA's and drive burn down of RPN's to
  • Support FPQP process: Producibility reviews & process capability studies with strong input into supplier selection
  • Cell development for new product launches, including layout, design of assembly fixtures and staffing playbook
  • Develop best practices for manufacturability across Thomson product lines and document them in the Global Innovation Library (GIL)
  • Coordinate CAPEX requirements and support CAR for new equipment purchases
  • Support definition of CTQ's and process for validating and sustaining
  • Use of statistics and analysis to drive fact-based, root cause analysis and decision making
  • Build relationship and trust with site leaders and operations managers that foster buy in and seamless transfer of ownership during and after launch phase



Critical Competencies

  • Excel, PPT and Project Management tools (Wrike a +)
  • CAD software (CREO, Solidworks preferred)
  • Proficiency in reading blue prints & geometric tolerances (GD&T)
  • Lean manufacturing tools (VSM, VRK, 5S, STD Work, 6 sigma
  • Proficiency in leading and maintaining PFMEA's
  • Strong Data analysis, using statistical problem-solving tools.
  • Knowledge & use of measurement equipment
  • Cost estimating
  • Knowledge of electromechanical assemblies (motors & sensors a +)
  • Proficiency in manufacturing processes (CNC machining, metal forming, heat treatment and assembly)
  • Knowledge of casting, molding, extrusions and surface coatings

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering with minimum of 10 years manufacturing experience
  • High sense of urgency, highly driven to win and break through barriers rather than using them as excuses
  • Highly organized and able to handle multiple projects
  • Hands on, proactive approach
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Fluent in English - Good verbal and written communications skills
  • Travel to other sites to support NPD launches (no more than 25% annually, but potential for bursts of travel up to 50% in a given quarter)
