Sr. Infrastructure Engineer

Job Description

  • Uses highly technical knowledge to setup and configure switched and routed environments and wireless networks that support access to Intranet and Extranet resources
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair multi-site network operations and network software.
  • Secures network systems by enforcing policies, monitoring access, and recommending improvements to both policy and implementation to staff and management.
  • Maximizes network performance by monitoring performance; troubleshooting network problems and outages; scheduling upgrades; collaborating with network architects on network optimization.
  • Manage and operate data network management systems such as Solarwinds, Nagios, Cisco Prime, Splunk.
  • Respond to automated system alerts and warnings.
  • Analyze, evaluate, and remediate systems or customer requirements.
  • Documents work using tools like Microsoft Visio for network designs and data flow representations.
  • Respond to inquiries from staff, administrators, service providers, site personnel and outside vendors, etc. to provide technical assistance and support with networking technologies.
  • Takes direction from senior team leads and technical architects to implement, monitor, and tune the network, and provide feedback to those same sources.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
  • Any other duties as assigned by management

Job Requirements

  • 5+ years’ experience working with Cisco network technology.  This includes routers, switches and wireless networks
  • Cisco CCNP certification required (will accept CCNA if they have the tech chops)
  • Strong understanding of data networking concepts, including:
    • Campus LAN switching using Cisco CatOS
    • Data center switching using Nexus and ACI
    • WAN routing using MPLS and E-Line transport, with BGP, OSPF, EIGRP routing protocols.
    • Strong working knowledge of tunneling protocols IPSec and GRE
  • Experience with F5 load balancers (LTM, ASM)
  • Experience with Cisco ACI strongly desired
  • Experience with Azure strongly desired
  • Experience with Palo Alto firewalls
  • Knowledge of Autonomous and Lightweight Wireless concepts desired
  • Ability to be on call at least one week per month, in a predominately 8x5 environment
  • Strong critical thinking, complex problem solving, appropriate judgment, and decision making skills
  • Ability to perform tasks with minor supervision, and adaptive to directional changes in tactical approaches to achieve corporate goals.
  • Must be able to multitask, be detail oriented and open to learning new applications and processes
  • Possess good communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Able to work in a team environment, value input from other team members, and be open to diverse technical opinions.
