Job Description

Manages and administers both physical and virtual network and network security devices within network environments. Deploys network and network security devices within network environments.

Duties

  • Administer both physical and virtual network and network security devices within network environments.
  • Participate in the deployment of network and network security devices within network environments. Participation may be limited to providing assistance to others or may require the contractor to perform the deployment individually.
  • Perform stat us checks on, and review status reports from, administered network and network security devices to maintain a day-to-day awareness of the performance of administered devices.
  • Address failures of network or network security devices to minimize the impact to ongoing security-related tasks and activities. This will require the contractor to be on-call to provide after-hours support, as needed.
  • Perform configuration changes and updates of administered devices as requested by the System Owner (or designee) to accommodate ability to perform required security-related tasks and activities.
  • Participate in meetings to discuss potential change requests and provide appropriate input as required to ensure that approved changes have the smallest impact to the existing network configuration, but still enable necessary tasks and activities to be performed.
  • Review vendor websites, distribution lists, etc. to remain aware of patches, updates, and upgrades available to administered devices, as well as security vulnerabilities which may be announced that impact administered devices.
  • Provide insight and advice as to the differences between virtual and hardware versions of both network and network security device performance and functionality.
  • Ensure backups are made of administered devices to facilitate quick recovery during outages, as well as to roll changes back to a 'last known good' configuration.
  • Ensure that government is aware of any outage of administered devices which prevents personnel from performing required tasks and activities.
  • Monitoring LAN performance and make LAN upgrade recommendations using management/monitoring software.
  • Performing diagnostic testing between network components.
  • Performing configuration changes and network upgrades.
  • Installing, configuring, troubleshooting, and maintaining network and network monitoring software and hardware.
  • Installing and configuring network protocol software
  • Installing, configuring, troubleshooting, and maintaining LANs.
  • Installing and configuring switches and network-monitoring servers.
  • Troubleshooting and repairing LAN lines.
  • Troubleshooting and resolving network issues and problems.
  • Documenting any existing and potential network problems during occurrence and provide solutions.
  • Documenting and coordinate assignment of static IP addresses.
  • Generating network diagrams, rack elevations and documentation.
  • Installing, configuring, and maintaining remote access devices and software.
  • Diagraming, documenting, configuring and installing virtual local area networks.
  • Analyzing hardware power requirements as well as heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) affects prior to upgrades and new equipment installs.
  • Installing and configuring wireless access points and wireless access controllers.
  • Facilitating the installation, troubleshooting, and repair of communications lines.
  • Installing, labeling, and troubleshooting internal network wiring.
  • Configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting TCP/IP and other network protocols.

Job Requirements

  • 10 years of experience performing IT system security related activities
  • 5 years of network administration experience
  • IT related Bachelor Degree or hold Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) certification
  • Experience with network-fabric type assets such as switches, routers, firewalls and load balancers.
  • Experience in securing/hardening administered network
  • Experience in creating/reviewing IT security documentation such as network diagrams
  • Experience in the consolidation and/or redesign of networks
  • Secret or Interim Secret security clearance
