Sr System Engineer, Database Administrator

Job Description

Overview

The Sr. Database Administrator role includes database design, database optimization, monitoring database server performance, capacity planning, installation, configuration, migration, performance monitoring, troubleshooting, performing back-ups and restoring databases, and handling database administrative issues during the on-call cycle. The primary responsibility is that databases are up and running, performing perfectly, and configured to function appropriately.

Responsibilities

  • Perform backups and restores.
  • Troubleshoot the database server (review execution plans to optimize queries or other database objects)
  • Administer and support Microsoft SQL Server 2008 – 2019 Enterprise stand-alone and clustered Windows Server environments
  • Administer and publish SSRS reports
  • Administer SSIS ETL packages.
  • Install SQL Server DB Server in stand-alone or clustered Windows Server environments
  • Participate in the weekly on-call rotation
  • Support T-SQL projects

Qualifications

Knowledge and Experience Requirements:

  • 7 years related work experience, of which 3+ years preferred experience in implementing, maintaining, and administering database environments

Formal Education & Certification

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field / Advanced degree strongly preferred
  • Professional database administration certification, such as a Microsoft MCDBA credential.

  • Must be able to learn, understand, and apply new technologies.

Skills Required:

  • Knowledge of database design, implementation, and operations
  • Experience with Oracle DB
  • Experience with MySQL
  • Experience with structured query language (SQL)
  • Experience with Azure Platform.
  • Experience with Windows Clustering is a requirement.
  • Experience of Quest LiteSpeed for SQL and SpotLight for SQL
  • Understanding of distributed computing architectures and storage technologies
  • Skilled with integration of security methods and requirements
  • Familiarity with SSRS and SSIS is a requirement.

Physical Requirements:

Requires the ability to work in excess of eight hours per day in the confined quarters of an office.  It also requires the ability to operate a motor vehicle, climb stairs, bend, stoop, reach, lift, move and/or carry items that are less than 50 pounds.  Finger dexterity is required in operating a computer keyboard and a calculator.  Office work requires sitting at a computer monitor for extended periods.

Additional Requirements:

  • Follow directions from a supervisor.
  • Interact well with co-workers, supervisors, and management.
  • Understand and follow posted work rules and procedures.
  • Accept constructive criticism.
  • Maintain Professional appearance and demeanor at all times.
