Tableau Developer and Administrator

Position Summary:

The Tableau Admin and Developer is a multi-faceted role focused on championing, supporting and developing Signature's Tableau server and reporting systems.  This role will have day to day responsibility for administering the Tableau systems from a security, maintenance, and deployment standpoint.   The role will establish best practices for Tableau reporting and dashboard development and teach other report developers in design and development concepts.  The role will also work closely with business users and analysts to define requirements for reporting and data sources and with SQL developers on data warehouse and data source development and preparation.      

The individual will be expected to stay abreast of all advances in Tableau from both a server and desktop development standpoint.   The role will be responsible for driving system upgrades. 

Finally, the individual will play a primary liaison role to Tableau’s Account Manager and Account Team assigned to Signature Consultants. 

The role reports into the Business Intelligence team and will take direction from the BI Manager.

Job Scope

Provide primary support for the following:

  • Tableau Production and Development Servers
  • Tableau Desktop Development Software
  • Tableau Report Development
  • Tableau Data Sources
  • Security Model for Tableau Access
  • Reporting and Dashboard Standards

Essential Job Functions

Vendor Relationship

  • Primary Liaison to Tableau, our Account Manager and Account team
  • Administer Tableau Licensing
  • Ensure Signature stays abreast of industry and company changes with Tableau

Reporting and Development Standards

  • Build and maintain reporting, server administration and security policies and standards
  • Work with and train report developers, analysts and help desk on adhering to standards

Report Development and Publishing

  • Work with users providing basic business and data analysis
  • Design and Develop Tableau Reports and Dashboards
  • Work with SQL Developers to create Data Sources and Data Connections and Data Views
  • Publish Reports for all developers from DEV to STAGE to PROD
  • Implement Version control within Tableau

Security and Administration

  • Design and create Tableau security model
  • Create project folder structures
  • Create and apply security groups for report access and system permissions
  • Facilitate users being applied to various security groups

Server Management

  • Conduct Server installations and configuration
  • Perform server upgrades in test and production environments
  • Perform capacity planning to ensure that servers meet current and future demand
  • Monitor server activity/usage statistics to identify possible performance issues/enhancements
  • Create/Modify/Manage server task schedules
  • Participates in performance testing to ensure Tableau Server meets company specifications
  • Develop and maintain Administration dashboards

Problem Resolution

  • Provide support to users and developers with Tableau related report and server issues
  • Build troubleshooting guides to help facilitate production and development support
  • Where appropriate, escalate and work with the vendor for problem resolution

Rollout and Training

  • Lead and support the rollout of Tableau, new reports and dashboards
  • Drive and support the use of Tableau's mobile application
  • Create and provide training to users and developers on new features, reports, etc.

Job Requirements

Essential Job Requirements:

Education

  • Undergraduate degree in technology or engineering or an equivalent required.
  • Technology certifications in Tableau, report development, project management, business analysis or software/database development, etc. are desired.

Experience

  • 7 plus years of graduated experience in Report Development including Tableau  
  • 3 plus years of experience with Tableau administration

 Required Skills

  • Deep experience with reporting systems such as Tableau, SSRS, Micro Strategy, etc.
  • Deep experience with both Tableau Installation, Administration and Development
  • Deep experience with SQL development (stored procedures, table creation, etc)
  • Experience with data warehouse design principles and building relational models
  • Knowledge of softwa0072e development techniques and practices
  • Understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle
  • Basic project management skills and experience
  • Experienced Technical troubleshooter who can quickly get to the root cause of issues and provide input towards permanent solutions
  • Data analysis skills - ability to dig in and understand complex models and business processes with advanced analytical and quantitative skills.
