Test Lab Manager

Job Description

  • Leads development and implementation of DVP&R plans and test procedures, provides timing and cost estimates for EMC testing.
  • Manages customer and internal technical specifications, lab procedures, requirements, test specifications, and methods.
  • Reviews test set-ups and test reports for accuracy.
  • Analyzes test data results.
  • Supports engineering with root cause non-conformances determinations.
  • Communicates and presents test program status and issues to program management team and customers.

    Manages EMC test lab and team

  • Procures equipment needed to carry out required EMC testing. 
  • Coordinates test scheduling with the labs (internal and external).
  • Ensures the accuracy of the lab’s work by giving lab employees clear, complete technical direction, reviews work.
  • Ensures testing completion meets milestone timing.
  • Plans and budgets for group (eg. Lab facility equipment, outside services and for Customer Specifications subscriptions)
  • Manages equipment utilization.
  • Represents NSI at industry events for EMC, enhances NSI capabilities in testing technologies, techniques, and tools. 
  • Provides EMC technical expertise to organization.
  • Responsible for calibration to schedule of all NSI equipment. Obtains and maintains A2LA and customer certifications for the lab.

    Team Management and Leading Others

  • Provide supervision, guidance, leadership, and training for team.
  • Monitor and evaluate the performance.
  • Train team members on policies and procedures and create and maintain a set of current forms and approval procedures.
  • Establish goals for team and conduct reviews.
  • Participate in recruitment activities and hiring of qualified department resources.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering, or equivalent work experience
  • 5 or more years of automotive industry work experience in a testing or validation engineering role in the area of EMC (Electro-Magnetic Compatibility).
  • Experience leading a team, whether formally or informally
  • Experience in design for testability and manufacturability of electronic and electromechanical products.
  • In-depth understanding of Design and Validate Document (DVP&R), customer test plans and customer test report requirements.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Knowledge of statistics, reliability, and confidence methods.
  • Strong knowledge of automotive test methods, standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Proficiency using MS Office software: Word, Excel, Power Point, and email/ internet software.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Technical Leadership: Includes being the subject matter expert in this field.  Ability to motivate the organization, enforce product technical excellence and sponsor innovation among the team.
  • Observation, understanding, and execution of applicable company ISO/TS/IATF certification standards related to the role and impact on the overall organization.
  • Strong knowledge of EMC test standards and accreditations
  • Strong knowledge in all types of EMC phenomena
