Security Engineer II - Windows

JOB DESCRIPTION: Provide support for design, development, sustainment, and optimization of applications related to production applications, operating systems, and virtual machines. Focus on Windows system security.
General activities may also include:
Coordinate and/or perform additions and changes to network hardware and operating systems, and attached devices; includes investigation, analysis, recommendation, configuration, installation, and testing of new network hardware and software. Provide direct support in the day-to-day operations on network hardware and operating systems, including the evaluation of system utilization, monitoring response time and primary support for detection and correction of operational problems. Troubleshoot at the physical level of the network, working with network measurement hardware and software, as well as physical checking and testing of hardware devices at the logical level working with communication protocols. Maintain network infrastructure standards including network communication protocols such as TCP/IP. Provide technical consultation, training and support to IT staff as designated by the government.
SCOPE: Develops and leads technical projects. Provides fact-finding and research as required for the project. May design operational test and evaluations based on research and analysis. Establishes and recommends changes to policies which affect subordinate organization(s). Provides guidance to others to achieve goals in accordance with established policies. Will have both on-site and on-call duties; expected to respond to outages off-hours.
PROBLEM COMPLEXITY: Works on complex problems where analysis of situation or data requires an in-depth evaluation of conflicting factors. Exercises judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Ensures project schedules and performance requirements are met.
FREEDOM TO ACT: May supervise a team of multi-disciplinary personnel to ensure congruence of the various hardware, software, communications and interface approaches. Responsible for the technical direction, leadership, and training of less experienced staff. Acts independently to determine methods and procedures on new assignments.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree in a related technical field and 6+ years related experience.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS AND ABILITY:
Experience with the following is essential:
- Troubleshooting of deployed IT systems, with specific focus on system applications
- Administration of Windows systems
- Requirements interpretation and decomposition
- Software development methodologies, including testing
- Software coding techniques
- Cybersecurity implementations.
- Nessus & SCAP scans
- Active Directory
- GPO management
Experience with the following is highly desirable:
- SQL Server administration
- Network administration
- Administration of Linux systems
1 year minimum.
